Ignition Live Under Bonnet

Anyone know if there's an ignition live under the bonnet, ideally near the headlights.
Only need a few amps and no can bus control of it.

Can't get to the car today to hunt for one.

Little project in planning :)

I used this one (it's red with a white stripe, excuse the dirt/grease - I've now cleaned the cable...):

It has an inline fuse, and then fed the cable through to the headlights.

I've got some notes on BMW wiring that say

Ignition Switch
position 0 - off
position I - accessory
position II - on
position III - start

In general:

Ground
- Brown

Unfused wires
- a solid red wire is always live
- a solid green wire is live in positions II and III
- a solid violet wire is live in positions I, II and III

Fused wires
- a red wire with a stripe of any colour, is always live
- a green wire with a stripe of any colour is live in positions II and III
- a violet wire with a stripe of any colour is live in positions I, II and III

What are you thinking of installing ?- DRL's ?

Already have them installed as AE's. Just need to make a few modifications to the wiring and control circuitry

That's useful bit of information. I knew they had a wiring convention, but hadn't seen it identified by ignition switch positions

Interestingly, the one I have shown above (red with a white stripe) is a switched live - I used it for when I wired up my angel eyes as DRL. :?

I think that's why the notes say 'in general', they're a good pointer to what should be live at what time, but I'd never connect to a wire without checking it with a multimeter first

It is an Alpina, so they just used any sort of wiring that was in the parts bin

:D you forgot "and added a 200% premium for the Alpina tax", pvr

...and where's your sense of adventure, Perry?
