Ignition Key Dealer Info

A friends just told me that if you take your key to any main dealer they can put it in a machine and it tells you loads of info about the car. If this is true, what info does it give you?
 
Sexual orientation. My car is,apparently, a male heterosexual with a fetish for Felicity Kendal :P

Hope someone sensible comes along soon.
 
The key has a code from 1-10.

Also it tells you info such as how many keys are allowed to start the car ie limit of number of keys available.

Some keys record mileage. But that is linked to the instantaneous mileage on the cluster.
 
Mine says I was destined to adore Debbie Harry !! The younger version of course. I've found out my car is called Zita and she said she isn't too partial to the John Denver cd currently in her cd!! Well I never.

Should do. Give it to the dealer and they'll tell you if the service is due / what's likely to come up in the service. The check is free.
