If you're running without a front plate...

...this is unlikely to happen - but it's evidence that the police do stop cars for lack of a front plate

Ah yes. Saw that article yesterday

And the Lambo owner wasn't insured to drive it

They are routinely stopped in Lincolnshire, and fined. I follow the Lincs RPU (along with others) on twitter, and they update you on all traffic incidents; regularly read about vehicles being stopped for no front plate.

Markeg - I may be thick but RPU?

Sounds like something which could be helpful - what is it and how's it help?

:driving:

Its actually a good thing i recon, checking no front plate does provoke further checks...

If your fully insured/ and car in good nick i wouldnt worry too much, i never had a front plate for nearly a year.

I am still on the S2K forum still... And a naughty boy on there had no front plate, and then got pulled over and car seized as they checked the insurance and it was not sufficient to cover his mods.... Not sure what mods... But they must have been visible- and not declared.

It's the Lincs Road Policing Unit, search for Lincs Police RPU on twitter, they regularly update - also follow the Fire & Rescue and other counties (Notts for example). Started primarily because of wife's job (she's an EMD in Lincolnshire) but it's proved very beneficial.

Maybe it's just here in Texas, but we don't have to have our plates in front just the back, and when my mom got her new 2013 328i from the dealership the dealer said you don't have to have it just the back. so far she has yet to get pulled over

In the UK you have to display plates front & rear, some people choose not to display a front plate on their Z (and other sports cars) but the police are getting increasingly hot on pulling people over if they have no front plate

I suspect that one of the reasons for the increase in police awareness of this is that average speed cameras, and ANPR systems used to identify cars without tax/insurance, tend to be positioned to 'see' the front of the car. No doubt, at some point, the absence of a front plate will end up being reclassified as an attempt to defeat these measures, this could result in people being prosecuted for attempting to "Pervert the course of Justice"

A lot of owners of expensive super cars are arab sheikhs or princes who just don't bother with insurance.

It's not really worth running without a plate. On TVRs and Lotus Elises, you get good cooling benefits of not running without plates. I know quite a few people stopped for small or no plates.

I was stopped in my Elise for having no plate, turns out it had just fallen off, luckily 100m up the road.

There's an Arabian guy in Leamington who rolls round in an identical lambo to the one in that link...wonder if it's the same fella.
