I've been barely a month into Zed ownership, and it has already been a fraught one.
My current pride & joy, a 2010 E89 3.0i M Sport in Melbourne Red, developed a fault whereby the windows would drop when attempting to lower the roof, but then nothing else would happen. Thinking it might be a quick fix, I took it to Cayman Autos of Dorking, a not inconsiderable 80 miles journey from my house, to get in diagnosed. My anxiety to take it to a more generic BMW specialist was purely down to the reputation these roofs have in regards complexity.
Before seeking help on the issue, I did have a little poke around to see if I could see anything amiss. I had noticed that under the boot trim, there was also the dreaded presence of hydraulic fluid, which could only come from one place - the roof mechanism. Long and short of it all, I had 3 faulty switches replaced, and a hydraulic line which ran from the pump and into the ether of the roof mechanics was also replaced, as it had kinked and then split.
Cayman Autos were awesome. They only specialize in roofs of all marques of cars, and their service was impeccable. I know that a few people have flagged up the Z4 roof problems on this forum. If you are unfortunate enough to find yourself in this category then I for one can thoroughly recommend this garage if you want your roof problems resolved.
