If Moore's Law were applied to the automotive industry

I had to do a keynote to 250 technical marketing people last week and rather than the usual dry technical stuff, had some fun facts about technology. The ones that went down well were car related so I thought I'd share the bullet points: (I've tried to remember the exact numbers, but you get the gist of it)

Based on a 1971 VW Beetle, if Moore's Law were applied:

In 1971 it did 81mph, Now it would do 324,000mph
In 1971 it did 28mpg, Now it would do 132,000mpg
In 1971 it cost $2,500, Now it would cost 5c

Now wouldn't that be a blast!

Very good.

I remember the response to this being along the lines that if the car followed the pc industry it would

Randomly crash
Need to be shut down and rebooted every few days
Cease to work and need upgrading to a new model after 5 years, etc. etc.

I posted a joke about the car/PC thing a while back in the "light side" forum. Had to get me coat.... Haven't posted many jokes since :(
