If I ditched the runflats, what tyres do you recommend?

The Michelin runflats on my Z are spoiling the enjoyment of the car for me. The car tramlines like a b*stard and they are very noisy. What do you recommend as a replacement, and has any forum member been through the same process and found a big difference in the dynamics of the car? Michelins I have are quite new, so I guess I could sell them on.

I got rid of my Bridgstone gripless RFTs for Falkens which cured all the problems at the loss of a little turn in sharpness, which I'm happy to accept. But I thought the Michelin RFTs were supposed to be good, if expensive :?

Depending on the mileage it might be worth having the suspension bushes and alignment checked, also maybe play with tyre pressures?

I've had Falken 452's on both of my zed's and have had no problems with them, the tyre pessures i run are 2.3 bar fronts and 2.5 bar rears seems to work well for me.

As a backup i have two tyrewelds and a Ring compressor and as yet never had to use them in anger. 8)

I also fitted Falken 452`s & has made a massive improvment.Didn`t fancy budget tyres ,but so far can`t fault them YET !

For those that have fitted Falken 452's, do the tyres offer any form of rim protection?
Looking at Falkens and Vred to replace Bridgestone RFTs and would be grateful to hear if either provide any protection against curbing alloys. Pictures would be appreciated...

Two tyres are Forum fav's

Falken 452s
Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta

I own neither, but the Vreds will be my choice at next renewal

452's have very little rim protection compared to other makes, but to be honest how much does a bit of rubber protect a rim when it's heading for a kerb.

Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta on mine and they are fantastic, the car was completely changed by fitting them! :driving:

:o

Mine doesn't tramline at all on the michelin run flats. Id check your alignment and suspension bushes before changing quite new tyres. You could end up changing and still have the problem?

I used to use avon zz3's alot nice tread design and score quite well

I'm on ZZ5s, no complaints, but the tread pattern on the ZZ3 was better. Vreds are even better IMO

The car still some warranty left (not BMW, so maybe doesn't cover suspension bushes!), but certainly worth checking. Is alignment a common cause?

alignment if out of wack certainly won't help.

if there's too much play in the front control arm bushes it can jump about a bit too.

I'm only in Surrey so I'd be happy to take you out in my car for a comparison if you'd like?

Cheers! I may well take you up on that before I throw money at it :D Would be very interested if you could drive mine, just to check I am not paranoid!

I have the Michelin RFT's also, no tramlining and not noisy here.

Thats very odd as I also have the Michelin RFTs and do not get any tramlining or noise

I see that you said that you have a BMW Warranty, were the tires supplied on the car when you got it and are definitly Michelins as BMW wouldnt fit Michelins to mine despite being BMW approved!
