That is what I have done. Just wondering if there is a max size of usb.

Fail in this I will assign my top six contacts to buttons.

32 gb is supported

Fat 32 only supports 4 gb individual file size. So you would have blocks of 4gb.
The file in question is only 8MB so should be fine. Your thoughts?

Iโ€™m not going to sweat over it. Itโ€™s just a detail.

Getting new boots Friday Continental sport 7. New OEM battery. Got a full tank of Shell V power.

Just going to enjoy.

Ps. Thanks for your help B21. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿซก

Youโ€™ll enjoy the SC7s :driving:

I chose them over MPS4 on your experience as Iโ€™m aware of how hard you push them๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ‘

Block size is irrelevant in this particular case..de minimus

8mb goes into 4gb no problem..may be an issue if you have a 2 hour long HD video.. :tumbleweed:

I think youโ€™ll find the front end feel much more reassuringโ€ฆthey just suit the E89 chassis better..Iโ€™m not sure youโ€™re going to over power the rears.. :tumbleweed:

The update that I believe teeboz is referring to is for the Bluetooth/multimedia update available (normally) from the BMW update page. Normally you'd put your VIN into their site and they'd let you know if there was an update available for the system. in this case it wasn't giving him an option for his VIN.
I did this on my retrofitted iDrive back in February having got hold of another VIN that originally had iDrive, was the same year and had all the same spec as mine.

This is the iDrive software update page before I did the update...

file.php

And after...

file.php

It's straight forward, you simply download the update .bin file onto a blank USB stick from here... https://www.bmw.com/en/footer/software-updates.html

Then place the stick into the USB port in the center console (NOT the glovebox one!!).
Scroll down to Settings, then down to Software Update, then Update Software and it'll commence the update. Follow any instructions given on the screen.
To be honest you probably won't notice any difference at all  :driving:

You are plugging the memory stick into the centre console and not the glovebox aren't you??

Format Fat32. 2GB usb. Centre console.

The issue Iโ€™m trying to resolve is the ability for me to search the address book. I can scroll manually but A-Z search does nothing.

What does your Software Update screen say? Does it show the "Multimedia" and "Telephone" software versions?

The A to Z search function works fine on my 2011 3.0. Here is my software version.

Here you go. Pretty old. Probably original

I've just been out to mine to check this, as I've never even tried it before, and yes mine is working.
This very well could be to do with the update (the Telephone part of the update). So assuming that you put "UPD01008.bin" onto the memory stick as the only item on it (ie; blank), and in the centre console USB port (as you've already confirmed) then it "should" work, so I can only take a guess at the size of the stick, but 2Gb should work according to some videos I've seen, like this one...

If it still won't work then I'd suggest trying a different stick.

Site no longer works for the E89 (and probably a lot of others as well :headbang:

I will give this another go. Iโ€™m going to re format the usb with full not quick format. And go from there.

Thank you to all your help everyone ๐Ÿ˜Ž๐Ÿ‘

Quick update

I had over 700 contacts (work) in my address book. Now down to 168. All working as it should without updating anything.

Still baffled as to why the usb is not recognised. If I resolve it I will post back๐Ÿ˜Ž๐Ÿ‘

Final update. I used a new USB that my map updates came with. Dropped the BIN file on using Windows PC as Mac can leave hidden files.

All good and updated.

Thank you for all your help๐Ÿ˜Ž๐Ÿ‘
