As more and more E89’s become old, unwanted, disused and written off, more and more complete OEM idrive systems will come onto the market.

I know there are some fairly comprehensive topics on this, as well as an android alternative. I want to focus this question on a purely OEM retrofit of an idrive system.

The below image is a package available for purchase, it contains all the cables and parts needed for a retrofit, to my knowledge, but looks like it would take me the rest of my life (even with lockdown) to try and fit it, and it still probably (definitely) wouldn't work!

How feasible (to some of the more technically able members) would you think this would be, looking at the below image?

I know a sticking point is coding, but could this be done by someone with the bmw laptop and software?

Many older E89s do not have iDrive, and it would be a substantial upgrade, especially with the apple car play addition to the stock system.
 
Well it’s technically feasible but boy it won’t be trivial..any missing cables will be a bitch..trying to work out whether it’s a wiring problem, a hardware issue or incorrect programming will defeat most mortals..good luck :thumbsup:
 
How much are they asking for this jumble! I have seen screens alone for hundreds of pounds as used items!
My screen surface has some marks and I would love to change it.
