iDrive Map Update pre USB

Hi,

I have a Z4 3.0 without the USB port, registered first Sept. 2009, I have confirmed via connected BMW page by submitting the VIN Number that USB or online update of the Maps is not possible.
Through reading other posts and articles I'm not sure that a DVD installation is possible, I'm uncertain of which disc ( compatibility ) to buy.
Wondered if anyone has updated their maps in a pre USB E89 Z4 and can point me in the right direction,

any help appreciated,

Hi I remember right (and correct me if Im wrong) if you look at your map screen on the iDrive and if there is an icon at the bottom left corner (i symbol with tick on top) then you should be able to update your maps via the usb in the glovebox

the cars must download a new version of the navi from the software, then succeed with the usb connection.

Hi again,

definitively have not got a USB connector in the glovebox,
anyone know which is the correct DVD, preferrably without having to pay £90 @ BMW.

thanks,

There are various sellers on the internet that offer a solution... I have used one in particular on various cars with success.. it’s against forum rules to name them though.

If your version looks similar to the photo below you can update it from 3 x DVDs. I’m not allowed to give a link but they are available on the Internet for less than £90. However, use at your own risk.

That’s exactly what I have in my ‘09.

I updated to 2017 maps via the DVD method and ended up losing the TMC traffic. I then got the navigation firmware updated at BMW and this got the TMC traffic back.

With this newer firmware, I’m now able to update the maps via the USB in the glovebox - a far quicker and simpler process.

Stupid question but where do you get the latest (usb) map updates from? Cheers.

Officially your BMW Dealer. We are not allowed to post links to illegal updates.

I updated my maps a few days ago from 3 x DVDs as it was not possible to use the USB method. My system needs a firmwear update which I’m going to look into once my local independents are back from the New Years holidays. To update from USB your sat nav has to have the i and tick as per the photo below. This should also give you full post code search.

Just checked and mine does have the i and tick as your picture. Genuine question, are the (non bmw) websites that advertise bmw maps (about £30) illegal then?
Cheers.

I’m no lawyer so let’s they are probably not genuine. In addition to update you need a FSC code linked to your VIN number and I doubt the ones being supplied are coming from BMW.

My Car still has the original 2010 maps on it but does have the i & tick
I just ordered an update from Westerley in Bridgwater
USB and Code @ £88.01 inc VAT
They did say it would be cheaper for me to take the car into their workshop but they wanted it for a day as they would have to wait for the code to arrive on their system. The saving was approx £12, if it was closer and more convenient i would have done that.
Cant be too difficult , should arrive tomorrow so i'll do it on Saturday and let you now
Cheers
Mike
