idrive and screen retro installation

Just took my e89 to the stealers to get the front alloys refurbed as I didnt check them when I bought it. :headbang: Got home and cleaned them to discover both were curbed. Anyway, they are fixing them for free.

As a courtesy car they have given me another e89 with the sat nav and idrive etc and I really like it. Whats the best way to get this fitted to my car? I have the BMW professional sound system and bluetooth phone integration already on mine.

Thanks

First part, well done, that's a pain but at least resolved for free!

Second part, I'd say forget it. Its a very expensive piece of kit and the work required is not do-able by your average joe, requiring expensive professional labor IMHO. Even if you can retrofit it (i.e. have the patience and money to spend) it won't work 100% as it needs to be registered with BMW to get the online functionality for things like the music catalog, BMW online services, Assist etc. and AFAIK that's done at the factory.

when i was buying my car last week (4 years old) i asked them if it could be done and they said 'not unless you have very deep pockets'...at source (new unbuild car) its a £2000+ option...after market they dont even give a price cause it would be double that (new dash even though it looks the same is required according to bloke i spoke to)

At first the idrive looks simple enough, but bare in mind the hidden parts that have to be wired in, the screen, hand controller, the sat nav aerial, the hard drive.
When i bought my car, it had to have the idrive as i knew that would be an expensive extra. When i searched around very few cars had sat nav.

Its best to forget about it. Its a great option to have but retro fitting it is a painful and expensive process.

Financially it may be better waiting a bit then part exchanging your car for one with idrive

Got the car back yesterday and the alloys are now perfect. :D The stealer confirmed a huge sum required for idrive so I will have to live without it - never mind and thanks for the responses.
