Idling

when I turn on the car if the engine is cold the car will idle abit for a few seconds before running smoothly.
If the engine is warm still this does not happen.
I used an injector cleaner which I poured into the petrol tank but it didn't really solve the issue.
What could it be in your expert opinions? fuel filter?

I get a rough idle for about 4-5 seconds on a warm start on my 3.0si. It's done that since I bought it a year ago, assumed it was normal but could be wrong.

mine does this too, never really bothered me enough to investivate it.

I had a thread a couple of weeks back about a "wobbling" idle when cold, car idle wobbles by a few hundred RPM, seems to be very common across the range and doesnt seem to be a problem

try giving the MAF a clean, takes a few mins to take ito ut and give it a spray with some MAF cleaner.

maybe read any error codes as well.

and also check and tighten all the intake hose clamps

Yes upon inspection there was a leak in the air intake for the throttle body hose. mechanic says $150 dollars...does anyone know the part number? i want to look see if i can find it for cheaper.

found the part:

anyone know a DIY? easy job?

Hi, yes this is a diy job just a bit fiddly, I replaced the same part on our z3, the most difficult part is being able to reach the clamps to undo/tighten them so make sure you have plenty of socket extensions & knuckles etc I think it was a 7mm bit.
I sprayed some silicone on the new part to help it slide into place easier as well to save some struggling.

That won't cure your start up idle if it's lumpy. Cars don't use various sensors at start up, instead reverting to a much richer default to aid initial running (similar to what an old choke does in a carb). It's likely just a trait of the engine.

You can seal that pipe with silicone. It's a bit a
of a hack, but it'll work.
