Idle issue

The idle on my Z has never been silky smooth. It blips very slightly every now and again. You can't see a change on the rev counter but you can just feel it. I can't imagine this is normal, any ideas what might be causing it?

Thanks

Sean

Andy,

When you say that it has been into BMW. Do you mean they were not able to fix it or did they say it was normal?

I have a 2.0 on 55 plate mine doing the same only very slight but u can feel its not smooth when you put your hand on the gear leaver and u can see a slght flicker on the rev counter needle. Its still under warranty so I will be taking it in will let u know what they find,

This may be a 2.0 thing that we have to live with. Mine does it too, but it's intermittent.

I'll ask them to check it when they replace the fogs in a week and report back...

I have similar in my 2.0. It's not too bad but you can notice it if you rest your hand on the gearstick.

I had a faulty ignition coil last year and that does make it much much worse though - this is nowhere near as bad.

My 58 plate z4 2.0 vibrates loads at idle especially on gear stick too

I'm gonna check mine out later then...pretty sure its quite smooth except at start-up. I've never owned a 6 pot tho so no comparison.

Edit > been for a good drive, mixed town and open road. Yes, now you've told me about this vibrate I notice it. Does it bother me - no, I think my vibrate is well within what I'd consider acceptable limits of vibrating (I have a very rudimentary understanding of the internal combustion engine, and quite frankly it never ceases to amaze me, and I'm always delighted that it starts whenever I want it to).
