Ideas on Car Value

Hi Peeps,

After only just getting the leather retrim done back in July last year, I'm considering selling my E86 3.0 Si Sport in April, currently in winter storage.

Have picked up another hot hatch BMW which I've always had an itch for which should keep me busy with tweaking/modding until I end up with a Z4M.

Only thing is I was just after some honest opinions on its value, as I've not really been tracking on what others have sold for.

Will create a separate classifieds add at a later date but here's an idea of the spec and work carried out by myself and previous owner.

BMW Z4 Coupe 3.0Si
84k miles
Full Service History/Maintenance Record
MOT until July 2022 - No advisories
5+ owners

STANDARD CAR SPECIFICATION OVERVIEW

M Sport Steering Wheels and Gear Shifter
Sat Nav with a 2017 disc

Previous owner had the car 3 yrs and maintained regular oil servicing, inc gearbox oil change and ran it on Super Unleaded as have I.
Other items changed by previous owner were xenon bulbs, and the recondition of the ABS pump by ECU Testing.

So onto my ownership, I purchased the car in Feb 2019 when it was on 81,337 miles and now is just over 84k miles.
Its only been driven occasionally in the Spring/Summer months and then garaged over winter.
Oil change 10/10/19 at 82,464
Oil Change 11/06/21 at 83,351
Electric water pump (Pierburg), OEM thermostat, OEM expansion tank change at 22/3/19
New 18" Veeman VC359 Alloys 11/05/19
New B4/Eibach Springs 15/07/19
Replace Track Rod/Tie rods 7/8/19
Gloss black wrap on roof 26/07/19
Gloss black grills 24/04/19 (still have the originals)
Full custom tan leather retrim by Edge Automotive 19/07/21

On the exterior the car has the usual age related front bumper stone chips, some lacquer peel on rear drivers side arch.

As with all my previous car purchases I spend more time cleaning them and spending money on precautionary stuff and not actually enjoying them, and then so its the new owner that gets all the benefit. With this Z4 its happened all over again

The seats and door cards look superb, not meaning to be cheeky but would you be willing to give an idea of price? :D

I think the problem you’re going to have is finding a buyer who is prepared to pay a big chunk more because of the re-trim.

Logically you’re going to want to get as much of your outlay back as possible, it does look fantastic but does it increase the value of the car by the cost of the work?

You might be better off offering the seats and door cards for sale with a PX for an excellent condition MSport interior, and then selling the car with them swapped over… I genuinely think you’d do better overall that way

What would be typical value for the car with standard M sport interior?

I believe a not dissimilar car just sold pretty quickly for circa £10,750… mileage and spec may have been a bit different, but I don’t think they were miles apart

For what it's worth if you send me the reg I can get you a Glass's valuation - I guess if nothing else it will serve as a guide

About what I was thinking.

How much was that lovely retrim, I wonder?

It’s worth what someone is willing to pay at that time, I haven’t but if I did go check the price online it would be 8.5k max with the usual buyers I know as I periodically check values of similar cars, making the interior nice and doing all the enhancements makes no difference and sometimes hinders a standard sale including wheels will rule out a fair few unless the price of a wheel refurb to standard is agreed, personally I like the car I see a lot of nice things on the car ie interior, suspension work, waterpump, cruise, mileage...I’d be interested.

What bmw did you get?

9k for a quick sale.
10 - 10.5k achievable to someone who really loves it.
7k to a dealer if desperate.

Re-trim will help sell but not really add value. Same with wheels. Mileage and number of owners is too high for top, top money unless you are a VERY good salesman.

My opinion judging by what I have seen. Good luck. Looks a lovely car.

Ok cool that’s different I get why too as I got my abarth which was an unusual choice for me I have had 2 minis too good fun cars and life too short so fun matters

I will be selling mine shortly as well and as such have been watching closely the market and what's selling when and for what, based on your car with its spec (which is very good) I would say a kick in the arse off 11k would be quite achievable.

Mine has 106k miles, auto with a similar high spec, FSH and I'm looking at starting at 9.5k as an asking price

I do like the Z4 as cruiser, but I grew up around XR2's, 205 GTI's and have always craved for another Mk1 Golf GTI preferably with a G60 conversion, but they all demand top $ now. So the R53 seems to tick that box, good lil car for very little money. I had this one built to spec with coilovers, Miltek exhaust and R56 brakes. Only 170 bhp at the mo but its so much fun throwing around my local b-roads. Smaller pulley and a mild cam should see 220+

I'd have a cheeky fiver on this going for £11k. You'll get tyre kickers low balling but someone will pay it. Heck I paid more for mine August, its nigh on same miles and without the worldie interior! I know you won't get all your money back on the interior but its got to be worth a premium to someone.

£11k was kind of what I had in mind, especially as the one True-Blue referenced went for near £10,750.

If it dont sell then the E86 and the R53 Mini would make two great weekend cars.

Without a doubt to be honest there have been low spec ones going for around the 9k mark and a little over so

Yes the zed is more of a cruiser I agree, and yes I have seen them been tracked and are capable but most of us will be steady away in them but the little cars are similar to the old 250/2 stroke bikes you might get on one intending not to get carried away but they just made you spank them...the little hot hatches are the same although I’m a slug driving now and I’m fine with it hence selling the abarth as it’s a fun nutcase if need be but I haven’t seen over 80mph and it does 140 apparantly the zed I can just relax slurp a coffee and listen to tunes or Spanish lessons

That doesn't seem outrageous given the spec your car has along with nearly new MPS4 tyres and that lovely retrim. You could probably get a decent amount for that strut brace too!

Shame you are selling soon after your retrim but maybe it's another case of "so many cars, so little time"!

Anyway enjoy your Cooper S.
