ICE upgrade

Hi All

Had an ICE upgrade today.............

I have the standard Professional radio without the factory audio upgrade option and no iDrive. The stock sound was quite good but the volume I thought was was pants!

So I have had a compact Kenwood 1000 watt amplifier installed along with a sound prcessor and some tweeters. The amp sits under the passenger seat and the sound processor sits in space between the rear panel behind the passenger seat and the boot, so everything is all tucked away and not visible at all.

Sounds amazing now. Even the guys in the audio shop couldn't believe how good it sounded. They said they'd upgraded a few Z's before with a lot more equipment at a lot more cost than the stuff I had fitted and even that didn't sound as good.

Hmm, a relatively simple upgrade like this sounds ideal. Did they only add tweeters so the others are all stock? Details on what they used would be handy ;)
 
All speakers are still stock, just had some tweeters added which are In Phase SXT1. Amp is Kenwood XR400-4 and sound processor is In Phase SRC6 8)

Who did yne work?

Iv been thinking a sound processor...but not sure if the costs will make a huge difference..

I am installing a JL 700/5 amp, with morel components and a 10" sub in the boot..
 
So what was the cost if you dont mind me asking. I had a slim sub fitted behind the passenger seat and whilst it did improve the sound, as you say the volume in the stock stereo is terrible so still not happy. be interested to know the cost to see if i may try the same thing next.

Surprised you didn't have a sub fitted with such a large amp....as you can't change the stock speakers, the amp will give you louder volume, but if the speakers can't really take it without distorting, surely a sub would have been good to make the bass tighter?

Just my opinion......
 
If I'd had more in my budget I'd have added a sub too but something had to give and my main aim was to get more volume so the amp was the route I went down. Turns out that I need some crossovers fitted now as on some tracks the speakers do pop a bit on the bass if it's particularly heavy. They did give me the option to swap out the mid range speakers but at £300 for the pleasure I'll go with the crossovers for £50.

Altogether the amp, sound processor, tweeters and now crossovers, including fitting cost £700
