Where i live the roads were coated in a nice layer of ice this morning, didn’t think much of it as my FWD fiesta doesn’t even notice ice or snow , it thinks its a 4X4. Well this is my first RWD car and with the summer tyres i had the traction light flashing continuously. so driving to work at 5 am, the car wouldn’t go forward or stop and yea i was scared but hell it was also a lot of fun sliding sideways around corners and under steering on roundabout, just glad i was the only one on the roads :D

how do the rest of you fell about 'driving on ice' ??? / any bad experiences

PS, i drove past a car that had flipped on a 30mph town road, 4 cop cars and an ambulance. first casualty I’ve seen so far this Christmas
 
Skid pan training is useful and a hell of a lot of fun anyway.I would totally recommended it if you intend to drive a RWD in winter conditions, It's much cheaper than hooning around to find the limits and response on the road. I think a couple of forum members had unfortunate experiences last year, even a low speed kerbing can cost :cry:
 
NOT at all fun imo -test drove my zed last year in all that bad snow and ice-right bum clenching experience,even coming from an e46(zed being half a ton lighter)
 
Drove to work this morning and discovered some black ice on a downhill corner, the car twitched a little as I was going to fast for the conditions. I slowed down and all was good with the world, thank god for my winter tyres. At the side of this 1/2 mile stretch of road were 2 4x4s one with a smashed front alloy and the other with a smashed in wing.
 
i s**t myself in my golf an hour ago, going down hill in first gear, not sure if its cos its a diesel but even in first gear it was going far too fast
 
Driving on ice is a regular occurance up here in Scotland. You have to take care, drive slow, and keep distances safe.

I dont find the zed too bad on ice, but am not looking forward to snow :(
 
well was my first morining out in mine and was having some sliding time lol, easy to solve though just keep the power low and the gear high!
 
Winter tires and a sandbag or two in the boot = drifting without the tire wear

Lots of fun as long as you don't prang it up. I read my manual one day and found my new zed works a bit better with the traction control turned off (one press on the button). I know this 'coz I was stuck in front of my driveway :rofl: Had 12 inches of snow in the last two weeks and its -5C so the Zed is hibernating until April now.
Have fun kids, don't break any of those nice alloys on a curb and have a Merry Christmas too.
 
Having a practice in a secluded car park to understand how the car acts and responds whilst sliding is a good idea with the following caveats:

- Must be a private car park
- Must be no potential for damage to property
- Must be no police present :lol:
- No witnesses should be present

Of course all of this would be done to improve driver safety in the event that you slide on ice while on a public road :wink:
