I want to punch Shmee in the face ><

Met Shmee once. Annoyingly he was very sound and seemed to have a lot of time for people, even though he's clearly quite a driven (arf arf!) individual. I think he actually put in a fair few hard years into his own businesses and then the city IT scene to earn his money, although I have no idea what help he got along the way.

Pretty fed up of all the supercar blogs these days, although fair play to the guys that actually drive these cars and share vids about them. I'm mostly watching Petrolicious at the moment.

Harry's Garage is properly anecdotal too. The man is from a different planet.

petrolicious is cool.
my faves are 'harry's garage', he's a top banana, ex editor of evo magazine and someone i'd give credit as a true car enthusiast long before this tawdry youtube generation of automotive imbeciles.
jay leno's garage is also next on the list and in the same league as harry's garage.
doug demuro and superspeeders rob are quite entertaining.
i'm liking 'number 27' too - the dude's got a '12 great cars' series going atm. some interesting choices including a lotus esprit...

btw I doubt most car reviewers earn big money (but do allright probably).
Shmee earned more from previous businesses etc I think?

If I look at shmee statistics its:
978.295 abonnees • 377.367.202 views

But if I look at carthrottles statistics its:
1.578.721 abonnees • 203.956.167 views

Roughly in the same ballpark, but the carthrottle midget drives an old e36 m3 and before that a knackered mx5 where as shmee drives a ferrari ff and a mclaren etc etc, so his money must have come from something else other than youtube views I think.

pewdepie is indeed in another ballpark (although I never watch his vids.... boring):
54.965.509 abonnees • 15.240.554.117 views
50-75 times as much

Biggest loser on youtube is probably ray william johnson, once the most popular youtuber, now completely gone to do other endeavors (I cant imagine very succesful)

Afaik shmees money comes from Burton's. I believe his name is Tim Burton and his parents own the Burton's clothing shops..

Car throttle is run by a guy an they've got an office in London. It's a big bunch of guys doing it rather than a single person like shmee so cars are completely different. Shmee has not made his money from YouTube, he's popular because he had access to money and cars already. Like Mr jww who I like way more.

Yes, I know they're a team, so all revenue also has to be divided.

Just looked him up (never heard of him). Looks very very boring. :?

I've no idea how true that is but it'd make sense. End of day he seems to be doing what he loves so props to him. I still can't stand his voice haha.

It is but they are also a bit more in the model of a tech startup, so they have VC funding, office space subsidies etc. They're trying to do something a little bit different and it seems to be paying off the moment (Drivetribe is partially a result of what CT has done, in my view).

Does anybody watch Nick Murray's channel? Strangely compelling.I can relate to him much more than the supercar gang.

Petrolicious and Jay Lenos garage are the best car vlogs on YT for me, like a bit of old Harry's garage too, and Doug DeMuro isn't bad from across the pond. I did like Chris Harris on cars too, no nonsense, proper driver, and he looks like he should be my dad, in fact he looks more like my dad than my dad does! Those who have met me will surely agree :D

The money these guys are earning off their channels now (through ad revenue share) is crazy......they'll all be taking at least £200k a year from YouTube alone...

it's roughly $2000 per million views. but it all depends on the number of subscribers you have too.

so to make £200K a year you would need roughly 100-150 million views spread across your portfolio of videos in a year.

some videos on their own hit 100 million views (music videos).
