I want a better exhaust note

Good morning Z4 Forum - newbie here :)

I am upgrading my from-new Z3 2.8 and buying a late 2009 sDrive 3.0 i auto.

However, where's the gorgeous deep exhaust note gone..........I loved the sound of my constant deep Z3 rumble.

Is there a recommended aftermarket exhaust system out there please...?

Many thanks in anticipation...

Eissenmann do some good, although expensive exhausts.

Or theres companies out there who will build you a custom one to your own spec/sound/tailpipe design, places like Powerflow. I once had one built by MIJ Performance in Wallsall and it took just 3 hours to design, build and fit - that was on my old 320d convertible though.

Ive got the 23i M-Sport now and personally I think the standard exhaust note on mine is great, nice low down rumble and the odd pop and crackle on the over run. Wouldnt want anything too loud but suppose it comes down to personal choice.

I know a few people that have put aftermarket (milltek / Eissenmann) exhausts on the e89 and within six months have removed them because either the drone on motorways is too much, or they feel a bit silly/the sound gets annoying after a while.

I'm not sure anyone here will be able to help too much as not many mod their e89's, best to do searches on youtube for the sound you want and then chase up suppliers of that exhaust over here.

Thanks guys.

Hmm, mebbe it's cos the deep Z3 rumble was good at low speeds, but the wind-roar around the soft-top precluded me from hearing (getting bored) at higher speeds.

Guess I'll have to be a patient fella and wait till I get it properly and try it for real rather than just a 5min burst in the rain down the A3........

Its a fine line between making your car sound silly or sticking with the OEM exhaust which is tuned to sound good at certain revs but reasonably refined at cruising speed. Nothing worse than a droning exhaust at motorway speeds.

I've found Eisenmann exhausts great sounding if you go for the road version which is only a few db louder over stock, the Race is too loud. The main reason above all I wouldn't have one is poor fitment on the cars I've fitted them too.

Tim.

Our exhaust is sportier sounding but no louder at peak to stay within German TUV legislation. You can hear the difference between stock and ACS on this page (albeit on an iS version, which sounds the same): http://www.ac-schnitzer.de/en/bmw-cars/products-models/z-models/z4-e89-since-2009/gallery/
