I know the Boxster is the better car to drive, the chassis and steering is fantastic, .

If better = softer - then yes the Boxster is the better car but I think that the M is a step too far for those who come from a sporty saloon to a sportscar.

As we've said - it's each to their own. I've owned 2 Z4s so I guess I must like them but I swore I would never have another Boxster.

Regarding running costs - I've got to say the Boxster was without fault while both Z4s have had minr irritations - all fixed under warranty.

I intended on getting a boxter before I got my Z; infact when 3 years ago when i got my last car i said the next car i own will have to be a Boxter, didnt even consider a Z4 - at the time in my nieve eyes BMW = Cock!

Then my Dad picked up his M5, I got looking in the dealer and the price difference between a non s Boxter and a 2.5 Z4 was over 5k, and the Z4 would have more luxuries and mod cons... test drove a 2.5si and decided i had to get one instead!

But now my next car will have to be a Cayman!

i tried a cayman when i was moving up from my 2.5 roadster, it was that or the Z4MC for me. I also know the guys who run Piston heads and they agreed for what i wanted and what i had to spend, these were the two.

Test drove the Cayman first. VERY well built, easy to drive and i loved the looks.... as i drove i remember thinking, this is the sensible choice, its an easy car to drive day to day.... i hit the slip road to the M3 and floored it... it was quick, but didn;t feel special...

An hour later i was in the Z4MC grinning like a loon.... the engine, the noise, the way it delivers power and the fact its an animal in comparrison, nowhere near as easy to live with, but thats why i loved it, it felt special.... and i've always loved the looks....

3 months on, no regrets..... The Cayman is the sensible choice, the Z4M is the choice for those that like the pleasure of driving and appreciate cars IMHO...

Simple,BoxsterS, Boxster S, Boxster S , had three of them, then a Zed 4, and went back to another Porsche. (daughters got the Z now) They win hands down on so many levels over the BMW
Go get one mate !!

Eexactly why I have never owned one.

BMW Z4 and Z4M are just much better value for money than the Boxster or Boxster S.

First time around ('07) I was looking it was a 2000/2001 Boxster S with 30 or 40k miles or a Z4 3.0i SMG with 10-15k miles for the same money.

Similar difference in 2010 between an older Boxster and a Z4M, now the Z4M prices have come down so much.

What Boxster can you get for 21k with 14000 miles? Not an 08, I bet.

In the end let's be thankful that Porsche, BMW, Lotus etc make reasonably priced drivers cars for us to fall out about! It would be a sadder place for petrolheads if Porsche went 'up market' and stopped making anything under £70k. Let's hope BMW still deliver a Z2 which is more like the MX5 and less like the 6 series like the current Z4.

Yes I certainly understand your point, and thankfully we all don't like the same thing, there is nothing at all wrong with you loving your Z4M kind of like maybe wondering how I could love my 2.5 with only 184hp. Well that 184hp is a beautiful refined tried and tested engine and has been the major engine for bmw for a long time, so they did a great job tweaking it. But the refinement of the porsche's 280hp and the speed of that car also blew me away, gee I wonder if I would like to drive a F430...well actually I am going to try one, I have to give a 2k deposit fully refundable after I tell them I did not like it, that should be interesting, is that car more refined like porsche or stubborn like the z4m?!!!

As for the boxster,as other ppl have said,it is a better car in some regards
mainly it is more refined than say a 3.0i on runflats(with the stndrd msport suspnsn),but if u fit a bmw front tower strutbrace(and fit non rft's),the z is as good as/better than a boxster or a cayman, imho (mate used to own a 2.7,and have driven a boxster and cayman s,911/turbo/lambos,etc)

Re the f430,having driven one,i would say the best thing about it is its sweeet engn note, and tho obvsly sporty its fairly civilised /and it is fairly easy for any1 to go drive(quickly),ditto a cayman or 911,where a z is more "raw",and more of a handful, initially

the only problem for me with the f430 was that the one i drove had paddle grbox and just 2 pedals/with very little space btwn the brake and ftrest to left,as i have qt a wide foot!
(made it very hard to come on/off brake and aclrtr smoothly :headbang:

Aas for lambos;gallardo is good, but try a mrclgo lp 640(or 670) if u ever get the chance.
a heavier car/but a real mans car(so to speak),and a great sound from engn/exhst when downchanging thru the paddle gears :D :D
