Body corrosion :? The one thing these cars don't suffer from unless they have been damaged, is it that bad?

Sure they do... seen plenty of 2003 - 2004 Zed's with corrosion on them, usually starts over the wheel arches .

Wow genuinely not seen this and had assumed the Zed was well sorted corrosion wise :o

LPG is an engine killer in my experience...

I had a company van with it fitted (AstraVan) and my mate had a non LPG one at the same time.

The engine was absolutely shot, after 100k it was doing a litre a week 150k it was deemed as scrap as it was drinking too much oil.

My mates one on the same engine has just hit 250k and only just started to use a bit of oil...

Spoke to the garage this morning, it's booked in for next Monday and not being driven at the moment. I have decided I will fix it regardless.

Ed - thanks for the info, I will pass it on to the garage.

IMO the problems are unrelated to the LPG - runs a bit hotter but every car is different, all depends on the materials used for the cyclinder head - I did a lot of research and the M54 is ideal for converting and a lot of 330's are running LPg with no problems - my car has always used a litre every 1000 miles since I bought it on 82k.

Will report back when the diagnosis is made but I am a little more positive today!

Ahh I see, the thread made it sound more complicated. Thanks.

Mine uses around 0.5L per 1000 miles, sometimes a little more but most of my journeys are stop-start traffic so I expect this causes more oil usage anyway.

Andrew,

The two vacuum ports you need to connect are circled in red on an image on the page I linked to. You simply connect them with a 3mm ID hose. You can get to them easily by feel. The CCV one you can just push though a gap in the inlet manifold branches using pliers.

Does yours use much oil?

Please let us know how you get on. Make sure the garage don't take you for a ride. It takes 15 minutes to check all plugs and coils. Only then should they start looking at replacing the CCV. Any BMW indie should know about this, it's a very common problem and the M54 engine is pretty ubiquitous.

Well I finally got it in the garage today - extremely happy to say it is just a coil pack on cylinder 2 that had failed. I had the underside of the engine steam cleaned to allow them to locate a small oil leak that I thought could be related and its booked back in next week as the leak is so small they want a few hundred miles on it find it!

Looks like I will have to source new wings after all

That is honestly really great news and i very happy for you

If you cant get silver wings... I am buying a load of silver paint to respray my car soon. your welcome to any that's left.

Thanks guys - just picked her up and running like a dream again

I have been driving a mini one converible in Orange for the last week (300 miles) and whilst I am lucky to have been able to borrow my other halls car - boy it's good to have the Z back!

Good on the wallet too thanks to the LPG

Matt - thanks for the offer of paint  - I am in no rush so will just casually browse the bay until I find silver ones

Bugger... I knew I should have offered you £500 for it last weekend ! :D

Seriously, though good news its all fixable
