I think my sport button is broke :(

2006 Si Sport Coupe....

Had it 4 days but only done 30 miles in it...so slowly getting to grips with the car.

I played with the sport button when I got it and it didn't seem to do anything, Ive been messing with it tonight and im 99% sure it does sweet FA.

My e46 M3 had one which when clicked would sharpen the throttle. As I understand it the Zed should do the same but the electric steering would weight up too?

The light is illuminated if I press "sport" but I dont think its doing anything?? LIke if I depress the throttle 30% in second gear for example and then press sport the revs dont rise any quicker it just stays the same?

On a manual (which I'm guessing) you should feel 2 distinct things:

The steering will weight up and this is easily identifiable while driving.
The throttle becomes much more sensitive so closed to WOT is much less movement.

If those 2 don't work show up it's not working

On a manual switching the button on at any given point won't affect the revs nor will it make it accelerate any quicker, just less throttle movement needed

defo dont notice any throttle difference, nothing like my m3 anyway.

Not sure on the steering, will have to double check

On a manual it makes no difference, except simply because you switch it on you'll drive harder (no doubt as Gerry says)

On an auto it will reduce MPG as it runs about one cog lower for any given road speed. Make is feel far more sporty but at a cost

The salesman at BMW was very honest and said he used to own a 3.0 Z4 and said compared with the M3 sport button he couldn't notice a difference.

Personally having never driven an M3 I find the difference to be staggeringly different in terms of throttle response, steering wise im not 100% sure as I havent had the pleasure of getting confident in the twisites yet.

If you normally drive sports mode off, you should noticed a marked difference in acceleration when sports mode on, due to the engine becoming more responsive and the weight of your right foot being familiar to driving in non sport mode, psychologically I think its a clever system . The steering does become slightly heavier,
Puzzled as to the benifits of this , or is there other stuff happening with steering suspension ect

first thing id is try resetting the throttle.

ignition on 10s
ignition off 10s
ignition on 10s
*clears*

Never driven a manual Z but on my Auto makes a lot of difference the whole car feels more alive and unlike most i feel the steering feels lighter infact the whole car feels lighter and much more fun and when i turn it of i can hear the engine not change to a deeper note and the pedal feels much heavier the whole car feels slugish especially if i have been driving in sport mode for a while then switched off.

Sport Mode would be an option i would choose if it was not standard.
