I think my left drain hole is blocked - how much £££?

Hi All,

I've noticed some water in the left side of my boot after it rains.

Some have said check the 3rd brake light - but that looks intact (no cracks anyway) So I think it must be the drain hole thing - I can't understand what has blocked it as it is never left under trees or anything.

I won't be able to take off my roof to fix this, so how much do you think it will cost me to rectify? My car has a BMW warranty but I don't think this would be covered...

Thanks,

DT

You could check the drainage by lowering the roof slighly just enough to create a small trough in the hood and gently pour some water in and increase the level until it starts to come out (hopefully through the drain holes) this is what I have done a few times to check the drain holes.

That said I read a post recently of someone who paid a dealer £1k to replace motor, so if thats working fine still test as above then unblock using the how to on the forum

Theres a good guide on here that someone did using a Vacuum Cleaner iirc... Have a quick search and you shall find!

Im going to check mine this weekend before the winter. If it is indeed blocked, im just going to get a compressed air line, stick it in the hole and slowly blast away :) Should work a treat (in theory!!) If theres any really icky bits, just use a nice sturdy wire to help it through.

Thanks all,

I ran some water through and it came out ok, the boot is drying out now - maybe when Sytners cleaned it the other day after the service they did something - I'll keep an eye on it...

Cheers,

Dave

I wound myself up all week after reading this thinking mine gotta be blocking up, So I decided to unblock them both today.

Didn't bother with the jack and axle stands , I just got down and dirty. followed the removal instructions and.......nothing.
Both sides were clean as a whistle, I even blew compressed air down them and flushed them both through with warm water.

I am almost disappointed no crap came out. Still, it is piece of mind and it was a doddle to do.

I wonder if there is a lazy man's way of cleaning the crud out by just sticking a long, semi rigid piece of plastic tubing down from the top and forcing either water or compressed air down there...
