Intro:
So for the last 3 months or so ive been getting a buzzing noise from the engine bay. It only happens when the engine is at very low revs and starts to labour under load (700-1000rpm). It never happens if you're rev it in neutral or are under light load and goes away above 1100rpm. It sounds like its coming from the very top of the engine nearest the bulkhead or even somewhere in the dashboard area.
This happens every time I drive at maneuvering speeds for at least 3 months. So I take it to the main dealer today to get it fixed, it's very annoying and I dont mind paying over the odds (within reason) to have it banished. So the mechanic gets in the car and I try and replicate the sound. Would you believe it, the sound it completely gone, no matter what I do I cant get it to come back. Slightly embarassing for me, the bloke must have thought I was an idiot or mental. However at the time I thought 'brilliant', slight coincidence it's fixed itself on the way to the dealer but these things can happen (as a former TVR owner i'm used to allsorts of worrying noises which come and then go without a trace!) so all is good..
Until I go to drive again this evening and guess what, it's back buzzing again exactly how it's been every time I've driven the car for the last few months EXCEPT when I had a BMW mechanic in the car! WHY WOULD IT DO THIS TO ME?!!! :-x
Can anyone help with the buzz/rattle? It happens regardless if the engine is hot or cold. The only difference with the mechanic sat inside will have been the extra weight but I cant see how that would make a difference..
