Very nice :thumbsup:

Some towel makes drying the car a doddle especially when you sheet the water of before using the towel.

Stunning car. Initially wasn't that keen on the new shape (especially since I just bought my 55 plate a month ago!) but the more I see it the more I really like it. Not as much as I like Cheryl though...

What are the benefits of using wash mitt, not sponge? I need a new sponge/mitt anyway for the new car. Are mitts as durable as sponges?

Sponges are not good where grit is concerned, wash mits are less likely to cause damage.

Any recommended brand for wash mitt? (http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/products/products/234206/wash_mitts_tested.html)

Kryton - Are they Race Glaze Lambswool Wash Mitt in the picture?

These are about the softest ive found and feel great when washing cars.

Alteranative ones are the meguiars and sonus mitts which come at a cheaper price but dont last as long.

Something out of the ordinary is the dodo juice wookie or yeti fist.
Absolutely massive and the softest thing by far but not the cheapest.

On the flip side, though sponges have a bad reputation for being a satanic form of washing the zymol sponges are still a favourite for washing.

IMO wash mitts are far better than sponges.

I haven't read that anyone uses a chamois? i find this great for drying the car and the most satisfying part of the washing process!

I'm with you - I quite enjoy the experience, even if there are more effective/time-efficient methods!

Though leathers are nice to use they arent so surface friendly.
When using plush towels they ensure the safest possible drying experience where as one fine bit of grit/dirt on the car can be cuaght by the leather and dragged along the paint creating either a scratch or swirl marks.
Ive been in the game 16 years now and gone are the good old days of washing with sponges and drying with leathers.
Car care has become a touch obssesive but it certainly shows by the finish you get working with new tools and techniques.

Sorry just seen your question

They are from 'serious performance', their Lambswool mitts and the Uber drying towel are very, very soft :thumbsup:

I currently use 2 sponges (1 for upper parts of the car, 1 for side skirts, front and rear bumpers), 1 bucket for BMW shampoo, 2 Autoglym Aqua Dry (synthetic leather), Autoglym H-Tech Wheel Brush, BMW Wheel Rim Cleaner, and Karcher Jet Washer/hose. The steps are as follows:
(1) Spray BMW Wheel Rim Cleaner on the wheel, wait/rinse/brush/rinse until wheel is clean. Repeat the same process for other wheels;
(2) Wet the whole car, then use small paint brush to clean small areas with shampoo, e.g. front grilles, badges;
(3) Wash bonnet, bootlid, headlights, rear cluster lights, windows, windscreen and rear screen with sponge, then rinse;
(4) Wash front wings, door panels, rear wings, then rinse;
(5) Use the 2nd sponge to wash side skirts, front bumper, and rear bumper, then rinse;
(6) Rinse the whole car again from the top to the bottom;
(7) Dry the car with 1 Aqua Dry, and wheels with old Aqua Dry.

Advise me if I do anything wrong. What is the 2-bucket method? Do I need 2nd bucket for clean water if I use jet washer/hose to rinse?

Quite excited - just ordered some FK1000P sealant and a SP washmitt from Serious Performance. It's amazing the simple things that excite me now!

It is a touch ocd but will help in ensuring swirls are not created.
There is no thing as a complete swirl free wash but good wash practice can help really reduce the possibilities of swirling.
