I think I might have head gasket failure!!

I'll post up what the findings are, that way someone else gets similar it may help them.

Just run two tests on it and both passed. Chemical test showed no combustion gases in the water, and compression tests showed even results across all 6 cylinders. So good news a it doesn't look looke hgf. Just ned to find out what this is. But at least I can now relax without writing its going to damage the head :)

I'm starting to wonder if my battery problem could have ben causing this somehow? This morning was the worst it has ever been, that was just after the battery was completely dead and I'd just jump started it, so it was still charging up. Then it got better further into my journey ie when the battery got some more charge in it?

Long shot I know but fingers crossed.... I'll be heading home in a bit, I'll report back

Prefaced with - I know NOTHING about engines that is technically useful, but could a bad battery cause the spark plugs to mis-fire, or wreck the timing of the electrical components of the engine ? Hopefully your hg-like issues will now just waft away

Glad it was nothing, but when you are looking for something you will find something...

I think you just need to chill and enjoy the car... don't worry so much! lol

Solved it!! I just have the stereo on a little louder

Just got home and the ticking is still evident. Its really weird, sometimes it sounds like its hardly there, thena few miles from home it sounded like a tractor! Honestly it was that loud with the windows down it would have been positively embarassing had I driven past someone

Anyway, on saturday I emailed over 10 BMW specialists throughout the UK giving them my symptoms and asking their opinion. I'll see which ones come back most helpful and come across as most knowledgeable and I'll get it over to them (just hope its one of the ones nearer to me :) )
