So i have been a bit of a numpy and went to the dealer claiming my car had a fault.. which apparently wasnt a fault but a feature!

On my instrument display where the time/ temp display etc is i kept having a number appear and counting down on it.. which seemed to happen randomly.. and often started from 300, and went down to 0, then my display (which i usually leave as the temperature) would return.

So booked my car in under the warranty and the mechanic said there is no warnings and he cant reproduce it... could i leave it with them for a week to see... and just as i was about to agree another bloke comes out and asks if it happens when i set my NAv? not being too sure i said i would give it a go.. and low and behold.. the number count down which appears there is the same count down for the next nav instruction (so 300yards to turn, junction etc)

Feel a little stupid now! Need to dig out my manual from under the back of the passenger seat and read about it!

That was a feature of the later Z4 versions. My old 2004 did not count down whilst my M does count down.

My 2003 does it and always has since I've owned it... that said it may have a newer nav unit as the original one was changed under warantee.

I cant see any point of the count down there as on the split screen mode the nav details are always there and on full screen the nav details will pop up as you approach.

To be honest, I find it sometimes annoying as just when I slow down or stop for a junction, and want to quickly glance and the counter for how many miles I have done and do I need petrol type thing, I can't see it.

Trivial I know, but I don't need a down counter on my clock.

But you can click the stork button to make it go away.. only for it to reappear on the next junction :headbang:
