I see Z4 drivers in a different light now

The ‘jab ..’ thread has amazed me. Make up your own mind why I think that all Z4 drivers are tarnished by this thread.

Oh! if I don't read it, how can I have a view?

Don't see the problem. It's a big talking point at the moment and there's bound to be a lot of opposing views. All seems civil and sometimes thought provoking but if someone having opposing views to you upsets you then yeah probably best to stay away from it. Compared to the conversations happening on Facebook......that's a whole new world entirely!

It goes to show that just because we all share a love for the Z4, it doesn't mean that we are all like-minded.

I went on the thread seeking some information to enlighten myself. I was open minded to leaning either way. Even tried contributing a couple of times. But it quickly became apparent that the views on there were just too polarised.

I'm just utterly amazed that the regular contributors continue on and on. I could understand if this was a forum more aimed at the topic.

I've ended up feeling genuinely sorry for them because they must literally have nothing better to do. It's very sad really.

Or some members find it genuinely interesting, doesn't make them sad does it, no different to any other thread, you contribute if you find it floats your boat or not if thats the case.

They have been furloughed for months and run out of diy etc

I think you are spot on

As a newbie wannabee trying to find enlightment on all aspects of Z4s it seems that a few people frequently and endlessly drone on about their pet biases and paranoias.

I can imagine quite a few people decide to quietly move on..looking at how a few monopolise this forum in a cliquey way..

Seems like substance abuse and mental health issues are affecting some here, hardly suprising, but doesn't make it an enriching experience for the rest!

The aggression that some of these people show to other members seems disgusting, especially if they have the temerity to call out their clearly provocative or banale or technically inaccurate statements.

As others said its even worse on Facebook but that's no excuse for what was a highly recomended forum, which is why I joined.

I find this thread hypocritical tbh..talk about let he who is without sin cast the first stone

Its the lounge area on a public forum so let people have at it, I haven't read much or contributed to the thread as its not of much interest to me when I'm visiting a car forum, I have my own opinion on the subject which I'm happy to keep to myself but I'm not going to sully other peoples reputation or tar them with the same brush because they want to discuss a matter at the heart of the nation right now on this or any other forum.

Don't like it skip to the next thread

Perhaps you've misunderstood my use of the word sad as being in a Kevin and Perry kind of way. That would have been disrespectful and not what I meant at all.

I just meant it in the old fashioned, original sense of the word. If these people, as I suspect, have too much time on their hands because of the current situation then that's a sad thing. I wish we were all spending our time doing much more worthwhile things like Z4 meets and seeing friends and family, going down the pub, etc, etc.

Whilst I wouldn't agree with all of your points, I think you've highlighted that new users of this forum may not be seeing it in it's best light just now. This is a real shame.

I hope you and others like you realise that the Z4 forum is a great forum and compared to so many others I've experienced is a dream!!

I'm sure once the world calms down a bit you'll find it a great place to be

Amen to that

Just managed to find a bit of time on here in between building a new extension and refitting the kitchen and bathroom

Ah, what a coincidence! I'm actually learning how to use sketchup right now so I can better visualise my ideas for an extension and remodel. Hoping to submit for planning in next couple of months. Not so easy with two kids climbing all over me and the Mrs at work (would you believe in ITU dealing with covid patients  ).

Maybe we should start a home extension and DIY thread

I've found the trick is to not bother commenting on, or reading further, on threads I don't rate/get or agree with. Simple really. :)

Each to their own. I you don't like the content don't read it. If you are just here for the Z4 talk then great there is still plenty of that.

Thankfully we don’t have the same views and aren’t all the same people. Just because we own a Z4, doesn’t mean we are identical.
Sidebar, does marking someone as ‘foe’ block them on here? #askingforafriend

Seemed to get worse as the thread count progressed, so am steering clear of it now. Felt like there were too many shouty/angry/frightened voices attempting to convince a polar opposite and opposing view.

My guess is the thread will end with a slow fizzle, only to be resurrected sometime in 2026 by accident

I posted on it a couple of times but it seemed to get taken over by polarised views expressed pretty vociferously, so I don't think I'll bother posting again.

But I may take a look if I want to laugh at an argument in progress!
