I really need some help with my ROOF!

Hi guys,

I have a problem which I cant find an answer to with the search function.

Basically, my roof stopped working, classic roof motor failure. I was off work for the week so thought i would follow shipkillers instructions and give it a go myself (at least find out what the problem was). Eventually got the whole roof off and as predicted the well was full of water and the motor housing dripping wet.

Took the motor out of the housing and...it looked in quite good condition, i was expecting rust everywhere like some peoples examples on here, but it wasn't to bad.
I dried it out with a hairdryer and left it over night. Connected it to a 12v battery the next day and.....was alive! moved freely both ways. Perfect i thought...

Put the whole lot back in the car, connected everything back up correctly (i think), tried to use the roof and...(here's my problem) the roof motor is buzzing round but doesn't move the roof at all, the roof can be freely moved by hand so is not seized up. The part that locks/unlocks the roof is working fine also.

Seems like the motor is working but is not powering the hydraulics anymore.

Can anyone shed any light on this or give me any ideas of what could be the problem.

Thanks very much for any help.

Sounds like the hydrulics are:disengaged.Check he red cord on the left hand side as you look at the boot. Pulled out and twisted is disengaged. Try pulling it out and rotating so that the "pin" fits back into the socket.

Hi,

I would agree with swiftly,it does sound like the red hoop is pulled out.
You didn't remove any of the hydraulic pipes and put them back incorrectly.
When I did mine Saturday I removed the motor from the hydraulic block and tested it seperatly.
Pretty sure its just the red pull hoop though.

Hi thanks for your replies,

That is what i thought it was, I forgot to say but I had checked that. I had to pull it out to get the roof to move when the motor was originally broken.
The thing is, when I pull or replace the red loop/pin it feels very limp, like it isn't really changing anything. I have a feeling it could be stuck in the disengaged position on the motor and the red loop/wire doesn't change it when I put it back in the correct position, if that makes any sense.

I didn't take any of the hydraulic cables off, so cant be that.

Just wanted to see if it did sound like the hydraulics were disengaged or if anyone had any other ideas before I take the whole thing out again :headbang:

Could really do with a win on this after hitting a pothole the other day, smashing 2 alloys, then the AA breaking my front bumper off on their low-loader after recovering me!

If you can still move the hood up and down freely, then the hydraulics are still disengaged. If it was engaged then you shouldn't be able to move the hood up and down manually.

agree with swiftly dont forget to check the micro-switch also, saying that though i think that just flashes orange and does not do anythiong
