Can anyone confirm that the BMW snap in adaptors allow me to skip tracks using the steering wheel controls ?

I can connect my android phone to the BMW head unit ok but cannot skip tracks

I have an old Iphone that I can leave in the cradle which will charge it but I want to be able to skip tracks too

I dont have I drive , can anyone confirm if this will work

thanks

Well you need the correct snap in adaptor, the media version which also allows for music to be played via the snap in cradle and your car needs the coms box fitted too I believe. Otherwise it won't work.

Can't understand why it won't work with the cable in the armrest.

Thanks for the info , looks like I need to do some more reading up then about this comm's box , nothing is ever easy is it !

If you're just after leaving the iPhone in the cradle for music purposes have you considered instead putting a USB stick with all your music in the armrest slot? I did this with a 64GB stick which has most of my music collection on it. Album art appears on the screen (for those with Idrive), steering wheel buttons can skip tracks etc and voice control works too, although the BMW lady's pronunciation is very odd at times (but that's another issue!).

Just read you don't have Idrive so I'm not sure how you select USB as the source, maybe it's only on Idrive.

Our car doesnt have idrive and selecting the USB to play music from is just as easy as changing from CD to radio or AUX.
Tracks are displayed on the panel on the radio and I am sure they can be skipped through using the steering wheel buttons.
There is not much info to be seen on the screen and can be a little awkward at first to get used to.

How do I know if I have S6VCA (Control, Combox) ? and where is it located?

Under the armrest I have a blank plate and under the blank plate is a socket which looks like the snap in adaptor slots into

I believe I need the 'media' snap in adaptor to be able to skip tracks from steering wheel controls ?

You might want to consider the snap in adaptor as a matter of course, it boosts the phone signal and charges the phone as well as being very neat with no leads hanging about, I'm really pleased with mine.

does anyone know any more about this combox ? , I dont want to shell out for the media snap in adaptor to find out I need something else

@ John - can you please confirm that you can skip tracks with your snap in adaptor from steering wheel , which version of snap in adaptor do you have

No I can't yet tbh, at the moment it won't but I'm almost certain it's a setting on the phone that's at fault. Using a lead before I got the snap in I could get it to work perfectly but then I messed with it and lost the setting, but I don't know what I did.. As I don't get much chance to use the car I hav'nt as yet tried too hard to rectify it, it's on the 'to do list'.

Sorry I realise that's of no use whatsoever..

Yes I can now confirm 100% that I can skip tracks with the steering wheel, as I thought it's the settings on my iPhone that are at fault not the cradle. I have the media version cradle and idrive.

I bought a 2nd hand media adaptor and this doesnt work with my non idrive car , only charges the Iphone

The only way I can get the I phone to play through the car speakers is by using a bluetooth adaptor with external thumbwheel to skip tracks

The steering wheel controls still do not work

John as a matter for interest what settings on your Iphone did you fiddle with ?

Ive just paired the Iphone to the stereo but it wont play music when selecting aux in

ive read about a 'combox' and wonder if mine hasnt got this fitted hence why mine wont work, although I cant find much info on the net about it

I was hoping you would'nt ask me that...

As I said I have Idrive so I can only go on that, plus I have only got music I bought from iTunes Store, so on my phone I go to my music, select a track from the list and it comes up with the song and the album it came from, I then keep clicking the album and it pulls up a page with 4 phone icons on the bottom of the screen, a square with an arrow through the top, a figure of 8 style icon made up from two arrows, a forward and backward facing arrows icon, and 3 dots in a horizontal line, I then clicked both the middle two, the crossing arrows which is shuffle I think or the forward and backwards arrows which is the track up and down feature. Sorry I can't be of any more help than that but tbh it was trial and error after a lot of messing, drives you mad, but I can scroll down the tracks on the steering wheel now.
