I phone 10 Bluetooth connection!

So yesterday, having sold my e85 I picked up a 2012 e89 20i M sport. Overall very pleased, however I cannot get my I phone 10 to connect to Bluetooth? Phoned the BMW helpline and they say it’s not compatible!! How can this be when it connected fine to my 2008 Zed?? This just doesn’t make sense to me, works fine with an older car but 2012 only compatible with IPhone 5 and older (according to BMW) WTF!
Anyone found a solution to this?

I’m not 100% sure but you’re problem may be the options that the car came with, it may not be Bluetooth enabled

Try the above website with your VIN and it will give you all the build options/specifications

I am using an iPhone XS in my 2012 e89 with no issues. Connects to the bluetooth and syncs the phone book, can make and receive calls without any issues.

Have you tried connecting to the car with another handset to ensure the BT system on the car is working correctly?

If you have Bluetooth option should work as it’s not, using Bluetooth , hardware dependent but os dependent..

I run the latest version of iOS and it’s fine on a 2012 my e89..usb/ fitted option more problematic and is h/w dependent

You may need to do a complete reset of Bluetooth on both the phone n car..

The Bluetooth communications protocol is a standard so it shouldn’t make a blind bit of difference what phone you use.

I’m not hugely tech savvy, how would I do that?

I previously used a Samsung Galaxy ( a few years old ) in a previous 2010 E89
The connection between the handset and car kept dropping out - the handset worked perfectly in the other two cars - the E89 was back and forth to the dealers but they could not see a fault in the cars system.
The service manager suggested I use an iPhone so I tried the geriatric iPhone 3 that was lying about in the kitchen drawer and it worked without without problem.

I needed new phones but Samsung tech dept told me that as bluetooth protocols varied between manufactures they could not guarantee that their product would work with my car at that time - I bought iPhone and they’ve worked faultlessly ever since and I’m now a100% Apple convert.

The best thing is to to go to the App Store and download the bmw manual app..type in your vin and get the correct version for your car...

Then go to the Bluetooth section which is very detailed and covers it all step by step..

So tried everything I can find, reset Bluetooth, switch to airplane, reset network settings, tried sons I phone 8 and nowt😡 tried a friends Galaxy....connected straight away 😒 so nothing wrong with the car which is a good thing I guess, just clearly a compatibility issue 🤷‍♂️
Flipping Apple, so good at most things except playing nicely with others😆

My problems were resolved by going to Apple
( then a 2010 E 89 car )
It’s witchcraft I tell you, witchcraft!

I have a late 2009 E89 and my iPhone XS connected without a problem. There must be more to it than just Apple iPhone products.

No idea mate, like I said, my friends Samsung, which is the latest one, whatever that is called, connected in seconds. I’ve now tried 3 I phones ( one 8 and two 10’s) and none will connect??

It’s all very strange. I had a iPhone 8 before the XS and that connected too. Steve Jobs was a Buddhist so have you tried a few chants to:

There seems to be some storage of historic connections which then seems to cause other devices hang..I had a similar issue with iPhone usb connection where I could get music and phone through the usb connection...then I lost music..would only play through phone not through speakers,,,weird..tried everything..gave up...

Similar issue exists for usb sticks for audio where there is a limit of keeping 4 usb identities and confusion can then exist unless you purge the earlier ones..

Fixed 😁
I found the problem via YouTube, my go to font of all knowledge, turns out the problem was very simple........I’m a nob, I’d been doing it wrong the whole time🙄 followed the correct procedure and it connected without a hitch lol🤣
Thanks for all the tips tho😉

Glad you got it sorted. How come the Samsung connected in seconds though if you were using wrong procedure?

When the car came up on the phone I was clicking on it and waiting for the phone to allow me to generate a pin. What I actually needed to do was create a pin on the stereo, the phone then asked for that pin and allowed it to pair. The Samsung just paired automatically when I clicked on the car name, don’t think I even entered a pin🤷‍♂️
