I need some advice

I put my car in the shop because when I hit the brakes the whole car shook. They told me the rotors were out of round and replaced them under warranty.

BUT they did not replace the pads because I was told there was still 90% left on them and BMW won't pay for replacement

Has anyone here ever heard of replacing rotors but not the pads??

I am sure if I was paying they would tell me they wouldn't be responsible for the new rotors if I didn't replace the pads too.

sorry.. american i guess.. but do you mean discs and pads? is *that* what a rotor is ?

yeah, discs=rotors...

nit sure, but I imagine if it feels ok now it should be ok. If the pads were shafted you'd know about it (I think). Maybe re-bed them to be on the safe side but not sure you'll get anywhere trying to get new ones.... or you could just upgrade to Axxia Deluxe ones and get rid of the horrible BMW brake dust

They just called me back and said they will not replace the pads until they are worn down.

Seems like penny wise......

Oh well it's still under warranty either way. So I guess it's their problem no matter what happens.

I picked up my car today and there doesn't seem to be a reduction in braking from not replacing the pads.

They did try to sell me a new tire. told me my tires neede tobe rebalanced $79 to do it. Then they told me one of my tires was out of round. Yea the car sat for four weeks of course the tires were flat on one side. I drove it for a while and all seems well.

Wanna buy a bridge.

not changing the pads won't be a big deal unless the pads were gouged in some way,other than that you should be fine. my main concern is why the rotors warped in the first place....must have gotten hot. my tires are Dunlop sport max and they are extremly soft,when I let the car sit for a while you do get some vibration until you build up some heat and round them out

FWIW....
One common way to warp rotors is to wash your wheels while they're still hot. (cold water on hot rotor)
You can also warp them by using the hand brake if they're hot. ...definite no no when tracking.

A lot of times however warped rotors are not in fact warped.
You can get uneven pad deposits built up which will give the same pulsing sensation.

As a rule if i was changing the Discs i would get the pads changed.

There is a little chance the Pads worn surface would mirror onto your new discs...........Only a slight chance though.

All sounds ok though, but why would they change pads under warrenty? Come to think about it Wharped discs arent really there problem either?

I am not sure why my rotors needed replacing.

I do know the last time I was in Smokey mountains I kinda pushed it a bit. When we got down one run I had smoke pouring out of the rear wheels so I took off driving again to cool them down. But that was the rear and this was the front.

Do know that what ever they did at the dealer it solved the shaking I had in the car when braking. and the warranty paid for it.

So if you want to keep up get your foot off of the go slow pedal :crazydude:
