I need a number plate

The plate on my Z has a letter, single digit, then my initials. I found this on eBay, as the DVLA website had no single-digit plates (and very few decent double-digit ones). I think they've already released all the prefix plates now.

I had a search set up to email me any new matches. Prices on there need to realistic to actually sell, unlike some of the third-party sites with inflated with the hope someone might buy sometime in the next few years.

If using eBay, you can search a bit wider. My plate wasn't in the plates section, but in the Cars section as it was attached to an ageing Punto. I bought the car, transferred the plate, then sold the Punto back on again. More recently, eBay now put the registration plate in most, if not all, car listings. You can't see it as it's hidden by asterisks, unless the seller also puts it in the listing, but it still can be searched. You have to seach the whole listing though. Searching JH is a bit tricky as I just get loads of results with those letters in the postcode, but the three initials work. I still have the searches set in case a nice pre-63 dateless plate comes up.

As far as I know, the first owner of my Z still has the plate it carried on retention. The only car it suits is a Z4M. It might not still be for sale, but I'll send the OP a PM just in case.

Can you make an "A" look like a 4 legally?"

Its very difficult to get anyone to play around with number plates nowadays. You will only be able to get the plate made up once you have purchased it from a registered supplier who will not tweak the fonts etc. Check here for the rules. http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/PersonalisedRegAndNumberPlates/DG_4022573

You can get "display" only plates made up by less fussy places but you do risk getting tugged running around with non-conforming plates. Depends if you really want that type of attention...

I'd go for just an ageless plate if you want something other than the original plate. Some of which can be picked up for only a few hundred quid from DVLA. I have the one I took of my vintage Porsche 914 before i sold it on my zed now to disguise it's age. The Plate i have doesn't mean anything but I think it improves the look...

I used reg transfers as they were the only ones with a number I fancied in my price range. I say in my price range but I put in a silly low offer. They phoned me up to say the chap couldn't sell it for that but would sell it for X. I said no thanks. Two weeks later they phoned me back and agreed the price.

Worth bearing in mind?

I still have MR04 DST (M ROADST) on retention, cost me £750.00 but open to offers if anyones's interested, also have the plate with the spacing

me too.. thought my 123ABC style plate was a bargain at £500

I bought a dateless old English plate a couple of years back that I'm in the process of sticking on the Z4MC. It's a 5 character (12 ABC) type that cost £1300 I think.

I like the MR04DST above, and the guy I bought my wheels off had 'M 4OUP' on his MC which I thought was cool too 8)

So basically I was looking at BM 06 ZAM to read "BM06 Z4M"

Bigger problem - you can't have the letter Z on a number plate as they look too much like a number 2.

I highly recommend the DVLA site - got my reg ownership papers after 3 days, and then applied to put the plate on my Z4 and had that back within a week too. It was the cheapest too - others looked cheaper at first, but by the time you get to the checkout you realised that they've hidden a load of fees which end up making it more expensive than the DVLA.

this is plainly NOT true.... there are 2 Z's on mine and it isnt a private plate....

You can have Z in the last 3 letters of the current plate system, but not in the first 2 characters. But you still can't have the letters I or Q.

I originally wanted ZA06UPE for mine, but it's not possible, and then decided I wanted MY06ZAM - but then decided against one completely.
