Good to hear it went well, must be so worrying. I'd really struggle mentally to cope with what you and your wife are going through, really puts things into perspective. Like worrying about stupid silly things when I should just be living life to the max. Hoping for a speedy recovery and many years more happy marriage
No you wouldn't....you'd be fine. When this happened my first reaction was anger - how could she get Cancer when she is a nurse, its so unfair. Then that passed and as we went through the process of treatment etc we were guided by the professionals and just got on with it.. You do have your quiet thinking time when you reflect, and I guess this can be difficult, but you turn your energy to getting through the treatment, and ticking off each chemo session etc. In a way I was lucky, cos I was (and still am) on happy pills (I was screwed up long before this!) and I think they numbed my reaction a bit. You and your partner pull together and fight through it. Ironically, it can make you stronger!
One thing that surprised us both when she was diagnosed and we started telling neighbours etc, was just how many people in our street had had it also! It is quite common by the looks of it. When Deb was off work she used to walk the dogs with this other lady who'd had it, so it was good support for her.
Lots of people are touched by cancer at some point, either a friend or relative etc. Its one of those things that you dont think will affect you..until it does. Its sad and such a cruel illness (like many illnesses!) and there seems no reason behind it. Already other people on this thread have mentioned they've had similar or worse experiences...I'm sorry for those who havent had successful outcomes.
The one thing that does help is just talking about it. I'm normally the sort to bottle things up, but you have to find an outlet or you'll go mad. For everyone that outlet will be different, for me talking to people and Deb about it helped.
