I lost my F'ing locking nut!!!!

Just bought another set of wheels as i needed new tyres and after changing them could I find the locking nut thing to put back in the car? Hell no!!! :headbang:
 
If it's a BMW one they're less than a fiver and they should be able to sort you one there and then.

You checked the boot for it as that is where it should be?

yeah that's where i should have put it back, and i've checked my pockets, under the seats, on the drive, in the garage etc etc etc
 
Bet you left it in the wheel.. I did it forgetting that I had not replaced the black bolt hole cap. Both times it was just a few metres down the road :)

as Srhutch points out they are all similar and BMW even have masters. IMHO they do stop pikeys and chancers that just drive by and would have them off in 5 minutes. Might just make them move to the next car.

I actually think this is what i did, i walked down the road but couldn't find it!

That's the obvious 'error'.

I also confess that I have a habit of thinking 'If I don't put X nut, bolt, component in a safe place I'll never find it when I put it back together'. Of course 10 minutes later I can't remember where my safe place was and 2 weeks later find it on the corner of the garage shelf, etc., etc. :headbang:

The look similar, but they're definitely not the same, as I tried to get my Z4 wheels off with the wrong key the other week and it wouldn't go on at all (key from a set bought from BMW about 2 years ago with a triangle and #17 stamped on it).

The Z4 one had a triangle and the number #34 stamped in it (yes, I know I've just told any pikey reading this what socket they'd need to remove my wheels - but I've bought a new set as I lost my other key and the new set was only £3 on ebay).

They are only a deterrent as others have said, but I have in the past had 5 different sets (from 3 different companies) of locking wheel nuts on a set of very expensive custom BBS rims :P
 
The BMW service chap had a master set with around 40 different spline variations when he looked at mine. Some do look very similar but only 1 was a perfect fit.
 
Let me correct - I'm not saying that the keys from one to another are interchangeable. Far from it. There are however a fairly liited number of combinations on any given model and a pro thief will have them all, a master or an adapted tool that can grip/work on most.

They will all stop the pikey, but none will stop the pro if he really wants the wheels, just as no car alarm will wan tthe pro that is having your car to order.

Frankly 2 large guys ringing the doorbell asking impolitely for my keys or wheel locking nut in exchange for not taking a beating can have them :)

Me too, but it's too embarrasing to drive a roadster that's been '///M'-ed up :P
 
Jeez - If you 2 turned up on my doorstep, you can have the car.

Still at least unless one of you has a friend :poke: you have to leave either a nice Coupe or ///M roadster in exchange :thumbsup:
 
well as the idea of car jacking takes pace in the forum - back on topic I got a new one for £9.47 from the stealers :D
