I hate my car .... more problems!!!

This site cuts out all the room for personal bias and opinion, ratings based on actual customers Warranty Direct claims. It's worth checking out before you invest in your next used car for sure and confirms my relative experiences of owning two Mercs Vs two Fords as family motors in recent years :cry:

It's just a shame that none of the top 25 make a proper 2 seat RWD sports roadster any-more! - Honda dropped the S2000, Toyota ditched the MR2, the Lexus aint sporting, Datsun's Z is close but it's a Coupe with the top chopped off :P.

So ladies and gents we are driving the most reliable make of 'proper' 2 seater performance roadster in current production (apologies to our tin-top colleagues) :roundel:

PS I'm 'using' statistics a bit, if you drill down in to each model there are some with better reliability the SLK scores 62 (good) Z4 117 (crap) - both are based on cars of an average age of 4.5 years :fuelfire:
 
Ewazik - I noticed on your link the E89 is selected as default, if you select the E85 from the dropdown the rating decreases (the lower the better, I think?) suggesting that the E85 is more reliable than the E89, interesting! (no debate intended!), or have I got that wrong?

No option for E86 reliability. "Open Top" only..
 
You have to also remember why these cars cost so much.

R&D BMW are at the top with mercedes.

Also the design process of a car is incredible with many thousands of components, out sourcing, cost of raw materials is shooting up, every time a new model comes out all of the tooling must be replaced for suitability and all workers trained. All of BMWs factories are extremely well thought through and all tooling is customised from the robots to the way the cars are produced on the main construction line. The conveyor that takes the car through the process is a 360deg rotary clamp that can be moved a full rotation to help with construction. The tooling for placing engines and gearboxes into the car sit 2mm above the floor and hovers to move with production lines. The process of unique customer cars is fantastic too, where components are driven along by robots. Completely automated tracks using magnets in the floor to tell the robots what direction to take. You also have all the CAD software to design the cars all of that is completely custom to BMW, you have thousands of designers, people on the construction line to pay. Top notch factories that use 65% of energy through renewable or low emission sources like methane from land fill, having its own powerplant.

Because the engine housing is now made from magnesium an extremely costly production process must be used as it is so volatile when it is liquified and comes into contact with oxygen a special injection system is used to reduce the reaction. But saves weight and dissipates heat more effectively so saves you money in fuel. Then the magnesium is encased with aluminium for the cooling system another first. Then you have to cost the amount it costs to ship things half way round the world etc.

People forget how these things are made! You dont just pay for a piece of metal, there are so many factors and 50% of R&D is making things you wouldn't even know about like on the production line. Custom costs.

You dont get the same level of tooling and perfection at places like peugeot renault nissan etc if anything they share the designs to reduce cost most new cars are the same designs but with different skins so they can offer it at much reduced costs.

There will also be one car once in a while that has more troubles than others unfortunately. You dont know how hard those miles were on the car from previous owners.
 
If it's any consolation, my Vauxhall (please don't laugh) has had loads of faults - swirl valves, EGR, 2 thermostats, new sat nav, broken front spring. All of these common to the model.

I look after my cars and don't thrash em. Some people are lucky and some not.

Oh, can I have your number plate, so I don't go and buy your car :) (sorry - couldn't resist. Hope you get it all sorted)
 
Yeah but everyone knows Vauxhall are a bag of shite to start with!!!!

Thing is, by the time I get everything sorted on my car it will probably have no more issues after i sell it on lol
 
You can find a 'bad un' in every car make and model. It's a shame it spoils your ownership experience.

Personally I've owned two Z4s an X5 and a 3 series over the past six years and had a parking sensor and window motor go on the X5 and nothing on the Z4s since a sticky nav screen replaced under warranty 5 years ago.. So BMWs are very well built for me.

I know that now!

ROFL!!!! Mind you saying that, many years ago in my teenage years I owned 2 vauxhall's, a Corsa and a Cavilier, neither of which had any problems compared to my Z !!!!
 
Well, today I finally decided to try and fit the new sensor. And I have to say, what a piece of cake it was to do, like you guys said, 10 minute job! Bought the sensor already sprayed from Ebay for £27. Like you said, I removed the push fixers from the wheel arch (easy), undid the bolts underneath the bumper (easy) and the bumper just pulled away.

The hardest part was removing the old sensor but once I figured out where the catches were holding it in place it came out a doddle. New one fitted, tested, and I have my beeps back. Pushed the bumper back into place, did up the bolts, push fixings back in, 10 minutes done.

Was going to take photos but to be honest it was so easy to do there is no point! So... I dont hate my car anymore (for the time being).... lol... thanks for everyones help! :)
