So just how do you do it?

I came home late last night to find my sloping long driveway under a blanket of snow. Just how the F**K do you get a Z4 up a slope in the snow? Tried so many things and failed.

Any tips, tricks or suggestions apart from buy a front wheel or 4x4 drive?
 
winter tyres. Best and cheapest solution. Drove mine in the Peak today with about 5-10cm of snow. No issue at all.
 
Reverse up the drive, worked for me in my sprite years ago. But yes move to Devon or Cornwall, not much snow here, ever. :thumbsup:
 
If you have to ask such a rudimentary question you really shouldn't be out driving in the snow.

i'd think shropshire is somewhere where i'd consider switching to allseasons over winter.

not worth it here in leamington, and i have the option of working from home, which i am doing today.
but anywhere further north/more rural, i'd switch onto some all seasons between nov/mar if i had to remain mobile.
 
You're just not trying hard enough!
Got caught out a few years back when I still had the kit car, forgot to check the weather forecast before going to work a night shift, getting home kept me awake! :driving: :o

Move to Cornwall. :thumbsup: I carry snow chains and a shovel, for when I leave the County in winter. :wink:

(Yes, I actually do.)

I wouldn't dream of going out in the snow.......... It dumped on me at the end of a 4 hour drive home.
 
I feel your pain, when i had my E85 in the UK my parking was down a small ramp, we only had a dusting of snow but i could not get up the ramp regardless of what i tried and then had the humility of watching a little smart car drive straight up it with ease.

Living in Canada now with a lot of snow, My Z4 is parked for winter and i have an F150 that i daily drive, but not before i learnt my lesson with a few RWD mustangs through canadian winters. If that experience taught me anything its that RWD in winter is possible, but you do need winter tyres and a bang of sand (or other weighty item) in the boot helps as well. Brown trousers help when changing lanes on the motorways as you pass over the snow berms between lanes as well.

I do recommend you purchase another set of cheaper rims, throw some winter tyres on them and you should be good, winter tyres are good for winter generally, not just snow, if the temps are below 7 degrees, you will get better grip from a winter tyre.

Like yourself I had a red 2.0m plus a slope down to my house and until I sold it last October I used to run it on winter tyres and had no problems in the snow. Have a look on You Tube for comparison tests of cars on summer and winter tyres trying to climb up Tamworth Snowdome and you may be surprised.

I traded my car in for a VW T-Roc which I drove unhappily for six months until I traded it in last week for an Audi TT which is now stuck on my drive as I can't get it up the slope until the snow clears a bit :D

To be honest I couldn't afford a decent Z4 so went for second best. It's not a bad car but Audi don't believe in giving you much tech and of all the silly things to miss it's the climate control as I'm forever fiddling with the heating controls.

Tbh Ian it was one of the serious considerations when we bought the M40i. But a fully spec’d on was circa £5k at least dearer than the Z4 iirc. Is it a coupe or roadster?

Up here just now it’s heating banged right up, no option :rofl:
