I feel bad for the Coup owners....

On a more somber note I, too, suffer from bad allergies. Clariton seems to work for me.. It got me off the monthly injections....

Even the "non-drowsy" antihistamines make me sleepy (and irritable - more so than normal :D ) I end up using Rhinocort which is a locally acting steriod. Works great as long as I do not drive a Roaster! :?

I actually wanted to get the coupe but the price bracket is a bit too much for me at the moment, I'm always scared to come back to the car and find a knife cut in the hood! You guys are all going to kill me but... I actually don't really like driving with the top down  especially if I'm driving on my own and are going to be going through some dodgy roads with dodgy people. However if my husband is driving and I'm sitting next to him then it's alright. My friend once had a banana peel thrown into her car by some git and his friends while they were walking past and while she was queuing in traffic with the top down . I thought it was hilarious, obviously she didn't quite share the sense of humour...

There are no dodgy people in the USA. :D  :D

Agreed

Plus a roof will not stip a .44 Mag shot at you :fuelfire: :fuelfire:

Just joking. Please do not roast me for being anti-gun. I am anti-violence and anti-killing. I am NOT anti-gadget and a gun is a gadget.

Good thing you're not anti-gadget, or there could have been trouble...

I get very angry when I see anyone driving any type of soft top with the hood up if there is even a glimmer of sun. The second it peeks out its wind in the hair time woo hoo!

Some good points under certain cirmcumstances, but from my experiences so far:

- worrying that the top motor may crap out some day - is this common? you must worry too much?!
- worrying about leaving the top down for a couple of minutes while I run inside for something - (arguably) the quickest soft top in the world so little time wasted
- watching the skies for rapid weather changes - watch the road my friend
- that some moron trying to break in will cut the top rather than simply break a window - a fair point, prob the main worry
- having the same discussion about putting the top down's effect on my date's hair - a wind deflector can be used under special circumstances
- putting the top down, only to have it start raining within a block - no major worries here - I once drove for 30 miles in moderae rain and not a drop hit me (may not work for urban speeds)
- leaving the top up because storm clouds threaten, and not get a drop the entire trip - (as above)
- sitting at a light with the radio playing a favorite song, only to have it switch to Barry Manilow just as some nice-looking chicks walk by.epbrown - I prefer no music, just love the engine noise!

I hope this short soft top survival guide helps anyone considering a convertble, it's a must at some point in a motoring career!

Yeah, well, when the wife finds the keys to the roadster she'll drive it with the top up more often than not (at least that's my suspicion). :D

Not my wife. Her words: "Screw the hair, that's what a brush if for"

I agree...I have never understood why someone would want a hard top version of a car that comes in a soft top option.
Because it looks soooo gorgeous:

I posted the same thing a few months ago, driving through the city centre a lot there are too many muppets about :guns:

I will confess I like the coup, but yeah on a nice day the top down option is crucial. I get ticked when it's a nice 70-75 degree day and I see tops up. Just the other day one of the fellow Z4's on base pulled up next me at the light to go onto base with his top up. He pulled ahead of me, didn't roll down his window. I don't blame him, I would of been ashamed too.

I'm just not too crazy about the look of the detachable hardtop. The way the back sides slightly stick out looks like a metal mushroom helmet, which takes away from the sleekness of the Z4 design. Can't say what it feels like to ride a 2003 Z4 with the ragtop up, but the later models have a hardtop feel from the inside.

I have no sympathy whatsoever for Z4 Coupe owners... it's a beautiful car!!

The only reason why I'm driving a convertible (and not the Z4 coupe) is... well, she's a hot redhead :whip: :dizzy:

if you live in Texas you can drive year round, i don't even park it in the garage cause i drive it everyday. It's always warm and only rains like 10 times a year! :driving:

i've owned an MBG for 25 years. in central Canada u only get about 7 months of open air motoring. love the feel of being on an open road with the top down. i bot the z4mc because of the ways it looks and its rarity in Canada. besides, if i was driving a convertible that didn't smell of burning oil, i'd think there was something wrong!!!

no need to feel bad for me, I don't know what it is.

The last decade of sports car racing we've seen many LMP class cars open cock pit ie. Audi, panoz, lolas etc...

Its the fully closed Bentley, Toyota GT1 or the new closed cockpit Peugot that drive me absolutely wild can't help but stare.. I don't know what it is, but for me if it ain't got a lid I'm not driving it...

unless its open wheel race car or bike...:D of course.

I have to say I went for the coupe over the softop because I really do prefer the styling. IMO it looks much, much sexier. Mind you, I have never been into soft-tops. Personal preference and all that!

I love the look of the coupes, I concur they are sleeker and sexier only when the soft-top is up. IMO they are equally sexy when the convert. top is down. They are both beautiful cars and like others have said, if I had my way I'd have one of everything 8). But, I have too many other toys and other things I'm investing my money in. So for me, I can't have it all but I live for top-down days :)

10 days of rain a year, I officially hate you.   I prefer the coupé for its looks and it's also much more practical for the weather. In Montréal, it rains 10 days per weeks, sometimes I think I'm in England. :P

Had a black coupe get off the freeway behind me tonight. what a gorgeous and attention getting car. I would never get one as i'm now a confirmed roadster guy, but damn that car was sexy.

I know it's a close race for rain here. I think I see rain for half the day maybe once a month....sometimes longer.
