I too agree, but I would like a Coupe' so I can take it to the track. On this coast, ragtops are not allowed on the track without a rollbar. Even BMW events...
I agree...I have never understood why someone would want a hard top version of a car that comes in a soft top option.
I was a cats whisker away from buying a Mazda RX-8....and then he sun came out, I whipped the top off te Smarty roadster, had a blast home and thought, NOOOOOO I need a rag top

Having had the roadster before this coupe, I can safely say that the usage I got out of the convertible in the UK was pretty limited (in all fairness I only go out with the roof down on the nice days - not one who uses in colder days etc).thegrape said:I agree...I have never understood why someone would want a hard top version of a car that comes in a soft top option.

My previous car was a roadster also. But I don't regret one bit going back to a hard top. The looks are the winner for me.

I have a Coupe for 2 reasons.
1) The Roaster I had was terrible. It's roof would not work properly and started squeaking within 2-3 weeks of delivery.
2) I have bad seasonal allergies and a Roaster did not help. However, the main reason was that the Coupe is more rigid and thus less likely to squeal like a struck pig.
BMW Canada were willing to let me replace my Roaster for a Roaster but I decided not.

On a more somber note I, too, suffer from bad allergies. Clariton seems to work for me.. It got me off the monthly injections....
I spent over 2 years in a roadster before getting a coupe. I know I'll miss top down driving, but I won't miss:
- worrying that the top motor may crap out some day
- worrying about leaving the top down for a couple of minutes while I run inside for something
- watching the skies for rapid weather changes
- that some moron trying to break in will cut the top rather than simply break a window
- having the same discussion about putting the top down's effect on my date's hair
- putting the top down, only to have it start raining within a block
- leaving the top up because storm clouds threaten, and not get a drop the entire trip
- sitting at a light with the radio playing a favorite song, only to have it switch to Barry Manilow just as some nice-looking chicks walk by.

All good reasons for a coupe, however in my case the roadster whether a vette, Z3, Z4 and Miata have always been our second cars. I bought the hardtop for the Z4 because of the looks and rarity, but bottom line for me was the fact if I was getting a second car and it was a two seater I could not justify a hardtop. If I am going to layout money for a second car(two seater) I might as well go all the way for impractical. Just my thinking! Besides, there are just too many drives that need to be topless.

I'll probably never hit a track in mine, although, there are lots of events out here where you can have a Z4 roadster. I've driven top down when it was drizzling, I just make sure I wipe the car interior down before i walk away. Being an ex-motorcyclist, I love the weather and all that wind/fog/rain that comes with it(Rhinocort and claritin have cured most of my allergy symptoms). I have specific playlists for moods, and I don't care what she thinks about my musical taste, the hot babe i've got at home likes my music.
The final thing for me is I live where there's not much heat, not much rain, not much cold and i'm about 40 miles from that last picture that JBZ4 posted.
If I lived in the Northwest, Northeast, or the UK, I might have a coupe, but probably not. I'd have a Z3 M coupe for the bad days, and my Z4 for the good days.
