I did 1,000 push-ups yesterday

When can we expect to see you folks doing the new Bowflex ads ??? :D :D

good on you, keep it up

I am all over this challenge. I've got an interclub fight next month with my kickboxing club so it can't hurt to that goal. I guess the key is to not burn out in the early stages and ensure the fridge is stocked with manly snacks. I'm not sure what the girlfriend will make of my behaviour however...

I just go for walks ... my dog tells me when it's time for the next one  works for me fluctuating by a pound or two ... still feel like I'm only 55 :) and at my age that's a good thing

Well done

But its Quality not quantity...... More so in most things to do with gyms.

Just seen this thread Paul, and I have, indeed, spotted that you posted this in June; however..........

I know what you`re saying, BUT.........I presume Paul, you are referring to using heavy weight, etc, to build muscle, as opposed to lots of reps ?

Although this method is widely advocated as the best method for building muscle (or it used to be), I wish I`d known 30 years ago what I know now; ie, that using lots of heavy weight back then WAS building muscle more quickly, but it was also putting lots of extra stress on joints........and at almost 50 years old, it is now that joint pain which seems to get slightly worse, each damp winter in/winter out, etc...

Maybe I was doing it incorrectly back then, but same as a lot of other young lads back then I wanted to build muscle quickly, and the heavy weight/low rep combination worked a treat !

Just wish I`d used lighter weight/higher reps back then, and may not have been in the same discomfort as I am now ?

I guess we live and learn..........

Ok that's it. I am not been out done by you lot. I have been staying quiet like a typical underdog but now I am off and running 98 today....... come on. Just ordered a sit up thing to fit the door bottom on eBay too. summer coming.......t-shirt, toned up and roof down? Might be hoody, man boobs and roof up though....

I won a bet that I could do between one and two hundred press ups in a minute. Did 2 and collected my winnings.

1000 in a day is good. I do a few, but torture myslef by running 5 miles most days.

There are press ups and press ups mate. I weight train and I find it highly unlikely. All the way up and down, lucky if you do 100. You see so many people in the gym with poor form and those who do half an exercise. Lift way too much, swinging there arms on bicep curls, it's doing nothing.

Ahhh you said you did 2 in a minute, my bad lol

Ha ha as you say - that was the basis of the bet - careful use of language. I can do a few and in fact mostly do such things on a half ball and feet on a fitness ball. Core stability and all that, but not my scene. I agree as my gym is full of idiots grunting with huge weight or flailing around with tiny weights and achieving little

Running is my scene be that road, off road track, mountain scrambling, etc.

True indeed. Got to mix it with cardio. No point having muscles if you can't run 100 metres without lactic acid flooring you.
