I cant seem to get over 18 mpg - something wrong?

It depends on your life in the car. I spend the majority of my time on motorways and get aroung 27 to 33mpg. If I am in London I get less than 20. If in the Cols above Monaco around 8. Lets not feels special becuase you get a low mpg. It's not big, nor clever. Just depends what you use your car for day to day :)

Nobody's trying to be big, clever or special, if you read what I said then you'll see that I've had more or less the same experience as yourself. An element of realism with regards to the MPG in these cars is all that I'm trying to get across.

My computer's reading 21.something MPG at present, that's light winter usage since I reset it last October. Runs of 15-20 miles every week or so. Give it a bit of wellie to shake out the cobwebs but nothing too serious.

I reset the OBC MPG on Saturday while driving in very busy stop-go around traffic around a busy town centre. The worst I saw was 17MPG briefly but once I reached better roads (40MPH with a stop every mile or so rather than every 50 metres) , it soon shot back up to 24mpg average. Today have driven 150 miles at *decent* speeds and even combined with quick acceleration as well as getting stuck in traffic and lost due to a redirected route being blocked (damn A303 roadworks), it's up to 26.1MPG.

I'm 99% sure that even with mega careful throttle in the situations you describe, I wouldn't even get close to that.

the latest thing is for 8 cyl motors to run on 4 when not under load, saves fuel..... how about popping 2 leads when you don;t need em... appreciate you'd need long arms to pop em back on when you put your foot down... :P
