I can't drive on the continent :( - tips appreciated

Much prefer a LHD on the mainland.... plus you can always have a bit of fun in the hire car...

No way I would be taking any of my cars to Paris or Madrid for example... haven't seen many cars without damage in those places!

So I tried to lose my driving in Continental Europe virginity this weekend when I went to visit the bf in Germany. So I got into his left hand drive manual BMW 320d Touring with him and drove to the shops. It went badly. I kept veering to the right and then nearly drove into a wall turning right...followed by standard type of argument in such circumstances.
I'm quite disappointed as I had visions of driving my Zed down to him sometime. To be fair his car is massive (sensors front and back though).
Any tips on how to improve?

Interesting comment, when I bought my Mustang and had the test drive I was told by the salesman that men drive towards the left when in a LHD for the first few times and women drive towards the right. I didn't believe him! However practice makes perfect.

Also many (many, many, many) years ago when I was learning to drive, my old driving instructor who was actually a local taxi driver, told me to always drive by aiming the middle of the front of the car car from where you're sitting at the middle of the lane you are in. Something to do with geometry that will put in the right place in the lane. It doesn't too well for LHD in the UK but should work fine for a LHD in the right part of Europe.

Andi.
