On the day I purchased my Z4, I also bought a hard top from a fellow forum member. For those who don't know; the hard top has three internal blanking covers which cover the three locks that secure it onto the car - one centrally located in the roof and one on each pillar. The seller had advertised it as missing the side blanking covers, so this was no surprise and not a problem when I collected it, but it did have the central one.
I scoured every corner of the world for some spare pillar covers (not literally, but there was a lot of Internet searching involved) before eventually securing a pair from ebay.de. These are out of production now and nobody has any in stock, and consequently are very nearly as rare as hens teeth.
I then put the hardtop in the garage until the winter came.
Around the end of October I fitted the hardtop to the car. I fitted the left pillar cover... followed by the right pillar cover... but I had LOST the centre cover. What a prat? After so much hassle trying to find the other two, I couldn't believe I had been so careless. I searched EVERYWHERE, but was unsuccessful.
So I started my searching again - this time for the centre cover. Eventually, after much hunting, I was able to secure one from a BMW dealer outside the UK who had a standard shipping fee of 60 euros and was not willing to budge on this. Due solely to the scarcity, I swallowed this and I think I paid a total of about 80 euros for what is essentially a small blow moulded piece of plastic.
Today I took the hardtop off for the warmer months and put it back in the garage. Guess what I found underneath the hardtop? (between the folded roof and the where the hardtop pillar attaches)... you guessed it!
So - anyone want to buy centre cover for an E85 hardtop for a bargain of 80 euros delivered?
