Finally got our tank working and had a play around with some weird and wonderful films.

Great fun working with this stuff!

Saw this on Wheeler Dealers for the first time earlier in the year. The possibilities are endless, if you can print it, you can do this with it
Is this done with the float liquid at room temp?

I'm thinking interior trim could be a good line as well as wheels.
I will leave the topic of 'taste' for others to comment on.....

Me too, they look great, endless opportunities!

Is it expensive to do?

The tank needs to be around 30 degrees which when you consider the units about 4 degrees this time of year is to say the least challenging.

Without sounding like I'm being an arse I won't comment on cost etc given the forum stance on trading.

I was just really happy with how these came out and wanted to share!

I had a set of alloys done with the carbon finish a good few years back & i was really impressed with the durability
These look really good Ricey
Do you have to start with a totally refurbed , finished wheel & apply on top or is it applied as the surface finish ?

Rather than quote to death I'll try and answer as one!

Longevity is the same as any other alloy.

Basically all it is, is a transfer over the base coat. The base coat obviously effects how the transfer looks (I.e gold undercoat on carbon give carbon weave) then it's lacquered with 4 coats of clear same as any other refurb.

Our standard process would be to get the wheels shot blasted but were having a think about acid dipping as blasting isn't always as effective as you'd think on some wheel paints and it's bloody expensive.

As for putting a tyre on.....again just think of it as a normal wheel. That transfer is hidden behind 4 coats of lacquer same as the base coat is on your average alloy.

Just for clarity:
Remove tyre
Shot blast wheel
Refinish alloy surface (ie remove any kerbing)
Scotch
Etch prime
Scotch
Base (colour coat)
Hydro dip
Clear coat

There's certainly a lot of possibilities there. Let's hope that Project Marmite hasn't yet made a wheel colour choice! :D
