Hydro Graphic Carbon Interior Part 1

As some of you will know from the "what have you done to your car today" thread, I have stripped out the interior parts of my Z to have them dipped, mainly cos I'm rubbish at wrapping, they will be ready to collect on Thursday but coud'nt wait to see how they have turned out so I popped in this morning to take a couple of photos, three coats of clearcoat laquer to finish them off :D

Brushed aluminium, main reason to have them dipped was scratches on the centre console. £150.00 to have them dipped
 
Looks good, I've seen some graphics that were pretty poor on other websites online. But these do look good, I guess you get what you pay for. Do they offer alternative colours? I know in wraps they have a silver/grey type carbon effect (as opposed to the normal black carbon effect pattern).

Cool thanks. I was unsure how brushed alu would look dipped like this, but it looks to have come out well. Can't wait to see if all finished off
 
Took me about four hours, but to be honest could have done it a lot quicker, just took my time and kept popping in and out of my bungalow
to drink tea and check forum threads and information I gathered which have proved invaluable, don't think I would have started this task without the help of Z4 forum members who have removed theirs. Took me about three weeks to pluck up the courage to tackle it, found the airvent in the dash a ballache but pleased I did it in the end, could probably remove all interior parts in about an hour or so now if I had too, but having them dipped they wont be coming out again........EVER :D
You can get your parts dipped in any colour or design you could think of Kis
 
that looks real impressive. If the parts were easier to get out then I'd be tempted to do the same.

I'm at that stage :lol: I've been wanting to do it for ages, I've previously removed the air vent in the dash to fit an aux so I know how to do that, I'm just dreading the centre console bit. Guess I'll just wait for a day when I have plenty of time and stop for a cup of tea every half hour like you did!
 
That does look really good and at £150 its a great price. Who did you use for it? How hard wearing is it? As someone who spent money/hours wrapping mine with the 3M stuff for the same effect I can honestly say I think I would be tempted to just get them done like this if I was re-doing them
 
Local firm to me called Penguin Speed Shop in Trelogan Mack, But from what I gather there are places all over the country doing this just google HYDRO GRAPHIC DIPPING near your location,Three coats of aircraft grade clear lacquer so I'm hoping its going to be very hard wearing. I had never heard of this process but came across it in an old post about wrapping on this forum.
STUBOY2UK Have a go, feels daunting at first but if you take your time and gather as much material off the forum its do able :thumbsup:
 
I'm planning to get rid of my wood finish, but like STUBOY2UK just getting the courage to tackle the centre console. As I have beige interior I think gloss/piano black is the only way to go.

I was planning to get them sprayed at a body shop but is this dipping process better ?
 
Cant say whether its better or not, I wanted the carbon fibre effect, but having them sprayed maybe the cheaper option
 
This is quite big in the States - lots of gun stocks get dipped in camo finish. I'd be concerned over how hard wearing it is as it goes on very thin, but with a few coats of lacquer it probably increases the the durability (I'd hope).
