Hydraulic scissor lift..first impressions

I bought this puppy from an old boy running a simple lift repair business for less than £1,600

I was dubious about the quality but decided to visit and take a look and as a result bought this version..

The scissor lifts are design compromised in some shape or form..this version will struggle to access / replace centre exhaust sections and prop shafts due to where the rams and metal work are tied together..a 2 post scissor lift would be better for that, but space and flexibility in my relatively small garage would be compromised.

Whilst I'm on 'issues', the lift lies flat, but even my 35is on stock ride height, not MSport or lowered wouldn't really clear the substantial metalwork.. I improvised short term with some 8 by 2 timber from the garage shuttering program pro-temp.

Another point is that the unit comes with several pucks to mount on the arms..I used the lowest version initially and found that the centre section covers were being pinched by the cross member steels..I used the next heighest and on two corners the 3rd heightest pucks which solved the problem.

For what I need its a good trade off..wheels and suspension and access to turbos and coolers will be much much easier..think I will leave the overhaul of the centre drive train to one of my tame techies..given the centre tunnel access limitatons.

Overall very pleased, Chinese made but nice n chunky..

Maybe being critical but that's a pretty hefty price for that Peter, you could have had a fully clear centre section from Automotech for the same price.....I did tell you.... :wink:

Anyhoo for the room you have it will indeed make life so much easier.

Weirdly enough I'm on the hunt for something along this line, must be the time of year?
I was looking at the Sealey AVR2500A 2.5 Tonne Air/Hydraulic one, a bit dearer though and needs a fairly substantial compressor.
I'll have to look at the one John suggested too although the one in the picture works out at £2300 delivered.

Prices have gone up..that baby is £2,300 now..delivered..mine was under £1,500…

I preferred the ‘spindle’ access to the support rather than the ramp approach but as highlighted its disadvantage is centre point access…

As you say compared to grovelling on the floor anything’s better…

Hi…yes I looked at pretty much all of them..that one looked a bit ‘spindly’ to me…as I said I visited these guys and was impresario the ‘chunky’ nature…weighs nearly 500kg…

Would have made changing the electric steering motor much easier.

That second option is a far better choice - i cant see anything but frustration with the cheaper one.
Hopefully they bolt solidly to the floor, also can you set them down into the floor to lower ground height if needed?

So following on from the various realisations of how these scissor jacks work in practice , in regard to low slung cars , we used 10 8 by 2 boards to fabricate a chunky and multi option ramp system …

Now the Z4vcan be easily positioned and gets some much need centre clearance to get to exhaust system and prop shaft if required..

It looks a bit obstructive if you intend to use your garage as a play den, gym etc..however if you are using it as a garage the car footprint covers the whole area..

Yes I liked them..just didn’t like the amount of working height underneath the car with them…with mine I have a lovely little wheeled stool which means I can sit on that and work at a comfortable height n position…obviously like all these things you pays your money and takes your choice..

Looks good..is it bolted down or moveable?

It's moveable, they had a 'demo' one on offer online so I rang and said I'd buy that, they said I could have a new one for the same price.
Delivered & VAT etc. for £2100, there was a cheaper one but I thought I'd pay the extra. More than I wanted to pay but sod it, the kids would get the money when I snuff it so why not?
Due this week, guess what I'll be doing over the weekend?

Good deal..I looked at them but I think at the time it was nearly 3k with VAT and delivery..enjoy..

Delivered and installed in my lunchtime.
Seems sturdy, the 'lowest' setting on the locks is higher than I thought, works ok in my garage.
