Hydraulic pump unit failure

Hello all,

Recently my car's abs light showed up alongside the traction control and handbrake light in amber. I took it to a BMW specialist to have it diagnoses and I received the worst possible outcome- the abs hydro unit is broken :(

The guy said it would cost £2000 to replace the unit from BMW if it can't be refurbished or £950 if it can. Needless to say I am absolutely gutted. However, I have found a website that refurbishes them for £200 so I am just wondering if anyone has had any experience with doing it themselves? If it is possible of course.

Oh and it's a 2007 2.0 with only 44,000 miles on it. Apparently it's a difficult year for this kind of problem as the unit can't be separated from the ecu. Anyways if anyone has any experience with this or insight into keeping the costs down I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks

Do you have full BMWSH? They will pay good will, but one indy stamp and you have had it.

Very unlikely. The items I had replaced after warranty on goodwill have always been stipulated as BMW service history only cars.

You may of course be lucky but it is not that likely.

When my hydro pump failed on my Series 1 (a common problem) many posters on the BabyBMW Forum said that they had been quoted a similar figure, £1500-2000, to fit a new unit. However, Bosch brought out a repair kit unit which cost around £180 including VAT to buy direct from BMW, subsequently fitted by my Indy. This was about 4 years ago so I would take a second opinion and see if a similar repair kit is available for the hydro pump fitted in the Zed.

BMW wouldnt give me a reduced price even though my 2007 2.5 - they said it wasnt a common occurrence at all :-)

there are tons of links about this, if its the controller unit - apparently they cant be fixed
