Hydraulic issue with roof - now fixed!

If you look at the two pics I posted you can see the brass pin. The first pic shows the pin in its correct position once freed, it should be proud of the pump body and move freely in and out.

I did find that when installing the pump in the boot you have to be really careful with the bowden cable just a small amount of cable tension and the pump pressure is released. After installing and then finding the roof wasn't working I was in two mins to take the cable off altogether but with a bit of pulling on the outer cable I managed to get the tension off the bowden for it to work.

I doubt very much that the pump isn't working, they get so little use to wear out, just make sure the pin is really free and moves in and out with ease, plently of wd40 does the trick and then oil with hydraulic fluid to stop it happening again.

i will take another look tonight or tomorrow and double check the pin and top the oil back up...seems to be escaping i think from somewhere as some kitchen roll i had underneath has got oil traces!.
Thanks for the advice as think the issue is the same as i have....minus the oil leak.
 
If you have a leak it could be from where the hydraulic lines bolt to the pump body. Have you disconnected the lines? Make sure that there are three copper washers, on each line and they are nipped up tight.

Can you post a few pics of your pump where the lines attach?
 
Thanks Davz . i will take some pictures over the weekend and also check the bolts. The only person that had them off was Mike at the Z shed when he relocated the motor for me.

I am not 100% it is leaking but the oil level is lower after i topped it up and traces of it on the kitchen paper i put down. It may be a trip down to see Durham Dave and get him to fix it as i know next to nothing on these things!.

Long-time lurker and first time poster.
I have learned so much from these boards and decided to post.
I had a problem I was able to solve and didn't see anyone had talked about it so I'm sharing.
I had a stuck bypass nipple which I greased and was able to make functional. However, pulling the Bowden cable which pulls the black plastic lever was not strong enough to push in the brass bypass nipple. I spent 60 bucks for a new Bowden cable kit because it comes with a metal lever arm. The replacement lever arm fits in the old plastic bracket perfectly and it works!
Just thought someone else might have the same problem. Some enterprising Z4 Forum participant should make a mold (mould) of the old plastic one and sell the resulting parts for 40 bucks a piece and make a tidy profit!

Now if I could only figure out how to put all the lines and wires back together exactly how I found everything. I did take lots of photos but it just doesn't look as well put-together as it did when I took it all apart.
