Huuge car lights - Why?

Just reading an article about the focus on Pistonheads when i had to stop and wonder why the hell the rear lights are the size of an elephants head??!

This seems to be a trend that isnt changing very quick, especially in some of the small hatches. Headlights stretching up to the pillars and costing a small fortune to replace if you have a crash. Anyone like them?? :?

Most of the new concept cars and high brand cars are going with narrow sleek more 'wincy' (unsure on spelling) shapes that arent completely out of proportion with the rest of the car.
Even some of the mid size and larger cars that are already out there have lights that are subtle, small and classy. The new Porsches rear lights are very tidy compared to old. So why do these little run abouts have lights that are so MASSIVE??!!

Is it something the consumer wants and im the only one baffled?? :D

OOOooo lovely!! A Kylie car!

I remember seeing some concept car a while back with just an array of pinholes that the lights hid behind. Looked really nice but no one has ever done it in production :(

The smaller the car the bigger the lights for a while i guess

i dont like the big ugly rear light either, I had a golf Mk4, and now the Mk7 seems to have smaller lights, so not consistent across all hatchbacks (the Z4C has small rear lights on a hatchback :fuelfire: )

I spotted the new Audi A7 the other day and have to say really liking their new LED ribbon style lights.

Go faster lights - that's a new one... Agree, I have seen them and thought they're the worst bit of what is actually a pretty nice looking car.
