Hi my 2.0 E85 2005 is Hunting on cold start ups I've already changed Air filter, spark plugs ignition coils and it's had a recent oil change am I right in thinking it's probably the pre cat Lambda sensor that's on its way out? No warning lights coming on.

Apart from one that keeps popping up P0492 (Secondary air injection system insufficient flow). No nothing.
Intake leak, I've checked it over it looks like everything is OK. I could get a smoke tester and try that just to make sure.

The secondary air injection is the black cylinder on the inner rh wing. Adds fresh air to the exhaust for a short while to dilute the gases until the cat warms up enough to work properly. So if that isn’t delivering enough air it could possibly be upsetting the O2 sensor readings.
Tbh, until you’ve sorted that you can’t rule it out.

Think I've narrowed it down to the valve as the pump is definitely kicking in and the hose is not leaking. Only thing that doesn't make sense is when the code pops up the cars been running for around 30 minutes so it shouldn't be running anyway????

When i bought my 2.0 it had a horrible idle...I did a throittle body reset and its seemed to of cured it.....not sure if it was just by chance.

OP check the exhaust manifolds arent cracked either.

Cheers I'll try the throttle body reset tomorrow.

I've checked the manifolds plus it's only a few weeks ago it had its mot.

I think I'll check the secondary air pump system valve tomorrow too after work.

Could all of this be due to carbon build up?
Thinking of getting it cleaned out

Hi all
Due to only having about 40 minutes of light after I get in after work. Not been able to do much on the car. So I've been mostly ordering parts for the secondary air injection system, oil and a filter because I'm not sure if it's been done when it says its been done. Plus I'm waiting for some new vanos solenoid o rings then I'm cleaning them too.

Think in the new year I'll start looking around for a garage I can take it to for a new timing chain and guides that's not going to charge me the earth

Changed all the secondary air injection system fuses, relay, pump and valve lights stayed off. Had the vanos solenoids out gave them a clean Refitted with new O rings, just got to do a oil and filter change. All good now thanks everyone.
Starting cleaning underneath and arches next when weather picks up
