hi all,

considering buying a Z4 Coupe 3.0si Sport so have been doing a bit of snooping around on here :)

have a test drive set up for sunday at my local bmw stealer to make sure I like how the car drives and if that goes well it'll be full steam ahead to find a decent used example and try and sell my current car. don't want to spend more than 20k but there seems to be a fair amount around for that price on autotrader etc so should be all good.

i'm currently driving an evo viii mr fq300 - had it since january 07 - seriously crazy car - i'd recommend everyone tries some 4wd turbo madness at some point but i get itchy feet quickly so feel like a change. will be hard going backwards in terms of bhp this time (evo has 400 horses) as previously i've always went up the way but i guess you can't keep doing that.

before the evo i had an S2000 and before that a civic type-r (a few before that but nothing worth a mention). favourite car so far has been the S2000 and i always wished they had made a coupe version as i loved it with the hardtop on. i reckon that the Z4 Coupe is the closest thing i'll get to that hence why i'm looking at getting one.

no doubt i'll have loads of questions in due time but here's a few to start with if anyone of you would be so kind...

1. What are the must have options on the car?

2. Is the Sport definitely the one to go for over the SE? (I did considered an M Coupe but have decided to chill out a bit after the evo)

3. Is an exhaust upgrade required or does the oem one sound decent enough when pressing the loud pedal?

4. Is the Gruppe M air intake worth the money?

5. Are there any standard mods that should be done to make the car better?

6. I'm 6' 3" - does the Z have decent leg/head room for tall drivers?

That's all for now - and if anyone has any other basic info about the car that they think is worth knowing it'd be much appreciated :)

Cheers,
Billy

PS. Anyone want to buy an EVO?

Yes, for the seats and the suspension, OK you can do the suspension later but the seats will cost you.

Hi and welcome to the forum :D

Id 2nd the seats - go for the sport

Id also make sure the seats are heated :D

Good luck with your test drive and subsequent search - because you will be searching 8)

FWIW, I'm 6' 2" (155 lbs) and fit just fine. In fact, there's still an inch or so of travel left in the seat to slide back. Actually, there's a lot of "hidden room" once you get settled in.

That said, I still fiddle with the adjustments looking for just the right combo of distance, tilt and height (thank goodness for electronic memory settings). I have M seats and find the bolstering perfect with the occasional sore spot on my lower back... so wish it had an independent lumbar adjustment. It may come down to proportion... where you height is... legs or torso or 50/50.

Some people feel the cabin in cramped, but it seems FAR from claustrophobic to me. In fact, I much prefer the Z4 environment to the Cayman and TT, both of which I was also considering (but that has a lot to do with the Z4's simplicity and ageless style).

Best of luck finding the right fit!

Cheers.

had my first go in a Coupe today at my local stealers. really enjoyed the test drive and have decided i'm definitely going to buy one. just need to get my evo sold now :)

Hey Billy - welcome! :D

1. For me, I had to have every option available - which is why I did a custom build and waited a month for delivery. However, now that they are out of production, you won't have this option. But definitely get the Sport/and Prem pack if you can.

M-seats are a must (heated is nice too), if you plan to do a lot of driving, or long drives - as they are more comfortable for long periods of driving. However, some people that are on the larger side (not height), have complained that they are too snug for their bodies and are not comfortable.

5. The first 2 mods I did (before even taking possession), were the clear bra & window tint. This doesn't make the car "better" per-se as you asked, but the bra will help protect your investment, and window tint helps keep the car cooler in the summer months. Also IMO window tint adds a little sexiness to the car. 8)

Well that's my 2¢ worth - good luck!

what was in the premier pack?

was it just the side quarter panel windows and the rear window you had tinted?

i've had quite a few too many pies but I found the seats to be perfect so it's all good :D

Premium is not available in the UK so don't worry about it

You can see quite a few coupes with the "sun protection glass" which is the rear and 3/4 windows but not the sides, although someone would do you a lighter tint on the side windows aftermarket anyway, but you need to be careful these days.

In the UK you might see cars with a "comfort pack" which is multi-function steering wheel, rear PDC, and the storage pack (cupholders and a net).

I have the roadster, so they tinted all my windows 35% (legal max here in Colorado), except for my windshield of course. ;)

WOW! Learn something new every day. I did not know that the UK didn't offer the Premium pack as an option. What is a rear PDC?

Get as many options as you can as they cost a fortune if retro fitted and not all are available from Main dealers.

I loved the 6 speed auto in the SI and appreciated the excellent mpg with the cruise on(dealer retro approx £250 for non M)

I regretted getting the 3.0 flash tuned(DMS AUTOMOTIVE) as the fuel went South with the needle.

If you tint out the windows x3 consider PDC or like me you may total the rear bumper ouch :headbang:

Have seen a black 3lt on here and with the silver grills looks great.

Yes defo on the heated seats!!!Girls lovem as well.

CSL wheels???You just can't help yourself

Good luck ,,,remember fools rush in where z4's fear to tread.
