Thanks to everyone who posts on this forum - your posts have aided my silent lurking whilst researching a Z4 purchase. I have just placed an order today with Westerly BMW in Yeovil for an '07 Coupe (57 plate). It is titanium silver, has about 18K miles on the clock and has all the kit you could want. I'm hoping to collect later this week or early next and I can't wait :driving:

If you are a lurker, then no doubt you've checked the 108s for corrosion - better to do that before you hand over your £££.
 
Picked her up on Friday and spent most of the 3 hour journey back getting used to the different feel compared to my old Focus. Within a mile of the dealership, I almost lost the back wheels trying to power out of a roundabout and discovered what tramlining was, and I started to wonder what the hell I had bought. By the time I got home, I was used to the feel of it but I hadn't wholly enjoyed the journey.

Saturday was a different story. I drove from Oxford to Slough and back again, and really enjoyed myself. I went out again for a long drive on Sunday and I am completely in love now! The sound of a three-litre straight-six is a beautiful, beautiful thing...

Can anyone tell me anything about alternative RFTs? The ride comfort is tolerable for me but I've read on here that other RFTs can reduce the tramlining. Tramlining is the only thing I don't like so much - it's not that bad and I can live with it, but it makes driving on poor quality roads at any decent speed a little stressful!
 
Firstly welcome, just do a few searches re the run-flats there is plenty of info/advice and possible options. I personally changed to non runflats as I knew my car had a lot more ride potential than my run-flats delivered! Enjoy :driving:

Hi Pauly, thanks for your input. A couple of questions - what size Falkens 452 would I need? (I think I read that the rear and front wheels are not the same size - is that right?) Second, if I were to buy them, would the required tyre pressures be the same as for the OEM Bridgestones?

I am enjoying my car but just occasionally don't have 100% confidence in the steering due to the tramlining and "crashiness", so I am looking to switch the tyres soon.
 
I Have 18's same as you and I bought Falken fk 452's! Front 225/40/R18 (Y92) £60.25 each from Camskill and Rear 255/35/R18 (Y94) £102.20 each, again from Camskill so all in all £334.86. Dont forget you will then need them fitted probably around £50! I asked around on the Forum with respect to tyre pressure too and its seems different strokes for different folks, I went with 32psi in the back and 30 psi in the fronts and that suites me fine I know others differ! :driving:
 
Cheers. There is a garage that does tyre fitting just over the road from my work, so I think I could get the tyres delivered from Camskill to the office and then take them over (even if I have to roll them over the road one at a time :D ). Will of course check the garage's ability to remove RFTs and so on, and failing that will look to Black Circles as one of their fitters is just round the corner from my house :thumbsup:

Will I need to have the wheels rebalanced / anything re-aligned post-fit?
 
My fitter (Guy Ive used for years) ensured my Falkens where balanced and weighted correctly and so far so good! :thumbsup:

I know exactly what you mean, I moved from an 03 1.6 Focus which I'd owned from new (having a car 7+ years, you get to know it inside-out) to a 3.0 Z4, it's a completely different animal! Driving position, view of the road, perception of where the front of the car ends, tramlining, ride, power - it's all so very different. Really hit my confidence a bit the first few drives, but as time went on I got used to it - comfortable now!
 
Got outside to take a couple of quick snaps of my Z on Tuesday. So pretty... needs a good clean though! I have started reading up on detailing/cleaning etc and will hopefully get around to that soon. I am having FK452s fitted on Saturday :)

The car is a 57-plate and had about 18500 on the clock when I picked it up. I've done about 400 miles in two weeks. Kit-wise, it has 108s, sat nav, cruise control, comfort package (including park distance control) bluetooth and xenons. The only thing it doesn't have that I thought remotely desireable was heated seats. This week I am planning my first "mod", albeit a fairlyo conservative one - the fitting of a Brodit proclip iPhone holder!
